After a sudden diagnosis and brief illness, at the age of 61, Kevin George Hnidy passed away on December 18 2023 at Royal University Hospital, with family by his side.
Kevin is greatly missed by his wife of 36 years, Laurie, daughter Alexa Hnidy (Seth), son Mitch Hnidy (Jessa); sister Joan Hnidy (Henry), brothers Pat Hnidy (Lauren), and Mike Hnidy (Melanie); as well as in-laws, Ted & Elaine Panchuk, sister-in-law, Shelly Panchuk (Cam), and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is predeceased by his father, George Hnidy, mother, Roseanne Hnidy, and sister Joyce McCallum. Kevin always deeply valued family connections.
Kevin was born on November 13 1962 in Saskatoon, SK. He attended St. Francis Elementary School, Holy Cross High School, and Evan Hardy Collegiate. Kevin worked many jobs that lead him to obtain his Journeyman Millwright Certification. He began his career path at Cargill as a Maintenance Planner, where he made many professional connections and lifelong friends. Kevin would eventually accept a position as a Maintenance Planner with Cameco (at both Key and Cigar Lakes), where he had a fulfilling and successful career. Again, Kevin continued to make professional connections and lifelong friends, until his retirement in May 2023.
During Kevin’s brief retirement, he enjoyed going for daily walks, spending time with family dog, Franki, doing home renovations, and offering a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and spending time with family and friends — which usually involved being on a deck and having a beer! Kevin excitedly travelled to Toronto, ON in June 2023 to film a segment on CBC’s Dragon’s Den, promoting his invention, Cap Bands
Kevin loved living life! He had a smile and a hug for everyone. He will always be remembered for his kindness and positivity, work ethic, and ability to fix anything. He was a friend to all who crossed his path
A special thank you to the many physicians, nurses, and staff at Royal University Hospital, who were involved in Kevin’s care.
