Obituary of Patricia Lee Taylor

Patricia Lee Taylor, born February 14, 1947 in Hamilton, Ontario passed away December 5, 2023, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Pat is predeceased by her parents, Audrey Lily Taylor (nee Webster) and Kenneth James Taylor; and her brother, John Murray Taylor.

Pat earned her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Guelph, her Degree in Education at OISE, University of Toronto and her Masters of Library Science at the University of Saskatchewan. Pat was a dedicated teacher and honoured member of her profession. She was Learning Resources Coordinator for Saskatoon Public School Division and President of the Canadian Federation of Teacher-Librarians.

She is survived by her daughter, Angela Martin and grandchildren Kayla and Brayden; daughter, Kelly Meadley and her partner Kelly Clement; brother, Nick (Bonnie); sister, Diane (Dan); sister-in-law, Sonja (John); nephew, Paul (Kate) and children Isaac, Ida Rose and Sam; niece, Carmen; niece, Jodi Lynne; niece, Rae-Anne; niece, Tara and children Liam and Natalie; niece, Katy (Jeff) and daughter Gemma – The Babe as Pat would call her! Pat also leaves behind many friends who have become her Saskatoon family. To those folks, many thanks for your generosity and companionship which gave Pat both happiness and comfort, especially in her final years.

Pat had a great love of music, art and the Saskatchewan Rough Riders! She was also a voracious reader. Favourite books from the past year include: My Name is Yip, An Old Lady Must not be Crossed, An Equal Music, and favourite authors include Lee Childs, Agatha Christie and P.D. James. She specialized in books for children, with Winnie the Pooh and Charlotte's Web being at the top of her list. Children in her class were known to whisper, "Mrs. Taylor is crying," at that penultimate moment – you know it – of Charlotte's Web.

Mostly though, and everyone who knew Pat, knows this – Pat was a gifted listener. She sure could tell a good story, but deeply interested in people, mostly she wanted to hear what others had to say. Conversation and the camaraderie of like souls was the greatest joy of her life.

Imagine Pat in the role of Winnie-the-Pooh asking us all, just as Pooh asked Christopher Robin: "Promise me, you'll never forget me ever ..." Pat, we never will – not ever.

Animals were very important to Pat and for all of us she will always be our wise owl.
Pat, you are loved and deeply missed.

Thank you to the staff at Preston Special Care Home
and to Maggie and staff at Luther Intermediate Care Home.

A Memorial Service in honour of Pat will take place in the spring.
