WILLMS, Donald John
November 6, 1954 - November 14, 2023
It is with sadness that the family of Don Willms announces his passing on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the age of 69 years. Don will be dearly missed by his family; son, Bryan (Chantelle Mann) and their children Maksim, Sohla, and Saskia; daughter, Jennifer (James) Loken and their children Jaime, William, and Jack. Donald also leaves behind his beloved mother, Mary, and his dear brothers and sisters; Richard (Shelley), Ken (Karen), Darlene (Brian) Barton, and Janet (Jim) Siemens and ten nieces and nephew, all of whom he loved.
Don was predeceased by his father, Frank, and his much-loved wife, Ramona.
Donald was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where his parents owned and operated Mid-West Electric. Don graduated from Nutana Collegiate and took further education at SIAST, eventually becoming a master class journeyman electrician while working for and managing branches of the family company before retiring to Saskatoon following heart surgery in 2018. Don took a lot of pride in his work and passed down his love of being an electrician to many apprentices over the years, including his own son, Bryan, who is also a master class journeyman electrician.
Don was an outgoing and caring man. He loved talking to people and loved a good laugh. He was very easygoing, personable, and kind. He loved his two children from his first marriage and was so proud of all their accomplishments. Later in life, he found love and many happy years with his last wife, Ramona, whose loss devastated him. He was also especially proud of his six grandchildren and loved spending time with them. There were many trips to Arizona over the years with his children and grandchildren where so many fond and fun memories were made.
As Don’s health declined, he moved to Saskatoon to be closer to the people he loved, and we were all grateful to spend time together with him. Although that time never feels like enough, we rejoice and find comfort in the knowledge that he’s gone home to glory.
The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations in Don’s memory be made to Heart and Stoke Foundation of Canada.
A funeral service will be held for Donald on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 2pm at Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 4th Ave N, Saskatoon) with a luncheon to follow.
