Doris Ouellette

Obituary of Doris Ruth Ouellette

Saturday November 11th mom peacefully passed and began the next path on her life’s journey. Left to morn her passing are her sons Toby Ouellette, Jerome Ouellette (Caitlin), and daughter Shannon, her grand daughters Cori & Jules Gaudet, Jordyn Ouellette, and Brandyn Ouellette. Mina had numerous “adopted” sons and grand children who also brought her great joy. Mina was preceased by her parents Gertrude and Joesph Lychak, 2 brothers- Barry and Daryl Lychak and her two sisters Debbie Lychak and Luella Wilderman. Mina was born and raised on a farm in Humboldt. Sk. She was the second oldest child to her parents Joseph and Gertrude who had 7 children in total. Growing up Mina attended school and began working at a young age and for a brief period of time travelled and worked for a husband and wife singing group before returning home. From there she held sales jobs and worked as a secretary. It was while working as a secretary she met and fell in love with her husband Lloyd “Chuck”. Mom and dad were married on August 30, 1975. Mom helped dad run his businesses all while raising her children. Mina’s children and grand children were the greatest accomplishments of her life and most cherished possessions. Mina would constantly volunteer and attend every hockey game, band recital, and school play cheering her children and grandchildren on. Mom returned to school in the late eighties and got her high school diploma before moving on to getting her special care aide certificates and nursing training. She won awards for getting the highest marks in almost all her classes. Mina found work at Sherbrooke Community Center working with seniors with early dementia and Alzheimer’s.  This was her true calling working with her ladies and men as she would often refer to them. Mina’s nursing career came to an end in the mid-nineties after getting injured on the job with a serious back injury. But she was still able to put her nursing skills to use as she became caregiver for her husband Chuck who was diagnosed with COPD and passed away in November 2008 from his disease. After losing her husband Mina spent her time with her family and friends learning to enjoy this new phase of her life. Over the past 8 years Mina’s health had some major set backs but her faith and fight always got her through. It wasn’t until the past year that Mina’s health really began to decline. With the love and support of her family and spiritual care she made the decision to move on to the next part of her life’s journey and was placed in palliative care. The family of Mina would like to thank the many doctor’s and nursing staff who worked with her and provided care. The family especially wants to thank Dr. Slavic and all staff at Saskatoon East Family Physicians for their amazing care to her over the years.
