Marie Herasymuik (nee Skilnik)
August 3, 1937 – November 2, 2023
Marie Herasymuik, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on November 2, 2023 at the age of 86. Predeceased by her husband Jim in 2012, she leaves to mourn her four daughters and their families. Christine (Kevin) Billinton, Brenda (Bob) Zunti, Kim Herasymuik (Sheldon), Darlene (Kelly) Blanch and nine grandchildren, Mitchell, Jamie (Hugh), Kendra, Mackenzie, Jamieson, Harrison, Tyson, Foster and Griffin. Brother John and Georgina Skilnik, as well as, extended family and friends. Mary Stefania Skilnik, was born in 1937, in West Bend, Sk. The eldest daughter of Wasyl and Anna Skilnik (nee Hiduk), Mary was a curious child and loved to learn and attend school, which is where her name changed from Mary to Marie to distinguish her from the 8 other Mary’s at the Coleraine schoolhouse. Marie fell in love and married James (Jim) Herasymuik in 1961, and they were blessed with 4 daughters. Together, they created a wonderful life and made a home in Yorkton, Sk. Marie stayed home to raise the children and was an expert cook, baker, gardener and friend. She had a love of spending time with people, was quick to laugh, and enjoyed music and travel. Saskatchewan summers were enjoyed at the family cabin at Burgess Beach visiting with friends, sitting in the sun, mushroom picking, berry picking and enjoying weiner roasts around the fire. Marie was an excellent friend and was known to be quick to support her friends and community in times of need. She was often delivering food to someone who was struggling or volunteering for various charities. She was a member of the Parkland Lion L’s club and canvassed annually for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, CNIB, The Canadian Cancer Society, and The Kidney Foundation. Marie and Jim’s love of travel and curiosity took them to many hot destinations, as well as Alaska, the Maritimes and Australia. Marie moved from Yorkton to Saskatoon after Jim’s passing in 2012. Although she left many good friends in Yorkton, her time in Saskatoon enabled her to be closer to her children and grandchildren and that was a blessing for everyone. Everyone loved spending time with Baba! Marie is now in the arms of God and has joined her parents, her husband James, and her brother Ed in heaven. The family extends their gratitude to all that have journeyed and supported Marie throughout her life.
A small, private service for family will take place on November 15, at 10:00 am. Marie's family invites you to join the service via livestream using the link at the top of the obituary.
