Marg and I were saddened to learn of Serge's leaving us. We enjoyed his company and Raymonde's at the Saskatoon City Hospital retirees luncheon held twice a year. In his dignified way he was an intelligent conversationalist always providing germane commentary.
We envied their property in France hearing about such congenial times of several of our mutual friends visiting there, but sadly never got there ourselves. Our condolences to Raymonde and family. He was an esteemed clinician.
Dr. Ralph and Marg Schneider.

My condolences to Dr Martel’s family and Mrs Martel. I worked in Labour & Delivery at University Hospital where Dr Martel came for many Cesarean births and attended newborns. He was a great teacher and had the respect of all nursing staff.

My heartfelt condolences to Jocelyne, Raymonde and Francois on the passing of your dear Dad. I first met Serge at St. Paul’s hospital when he was in practice with Carlos Maningas. I was a nursery nurse and attended many procedures with him in the special care nursery. I smile remembering and got to know, without looking, when he came into the nursery. He had a distinctive, hurried and purposeful shuffle unique only to him. Many times he arrived with a babe bundled in his arms directly from labor and delivery saying he could outrun any isolette. Of course he was right.
As his office nurse for a decade at Pediatric Associates, I witnessed the personal side of Serge and saw how dedicated and proud he was to be a husband and father. Each summer we were entertained and amused by Jocelyne coming home to work in the office during University breaks. I still laugh watching her make a dress pattern out of table paper, and modelling the finished dress later for us. When I told Serge he chuckled and flashed me that ever familiar twinkle and grin as he so often did when speaking of his family.
Remembering with fondness his professional expertise, his love of family, and respect shown to his colleagues and staff.

I am so sad to hear this news !
My condolences to Raymonde, Jocelyne, Francois and their families.
I have such wonderful memories of Serge .. I remember him stitching up my shoulder after I'd gotten a big splinter in it playing hockey outside .. he did the whole procedure with the best of humour and he was so entertaining .. I don't think it even hurt ! My best to you all in this difficult time.
Papa se join a moi pour vous souhaiter nos plus sincères condoléances. Bon courage.

Dr. Martel will always hold a special place in our Family's hearts. He cared for our first child, Andrew who went through several surgeries, two of them at Toronto Sick Children's Hospital. He was constantly in touch with us to check in to see how our son was doing over many years. We saw him often at RUH and in his office. He was a Prince of a Man! He was so gentle, always compassionate but interjected a sense of humour. He never left us with out a hug and little special touch for our kids. At one time he said we needed a break and offered us his house in France. He was so kind and generous. with his time. He sent postcards to Andrew while he was away in France. We were so fortunate that he also looked after our other two children when they were born. He was one of a kind with a special touch to make kids feel comfortable in his presence. We will always be grateful for his care of our children. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this sad and difficult time.
With many special memories,
Sue, Vic, Andrew, Ashley and Austin Boryski
