Obituary of Laura Penner
It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Laura Penner (Allan) 93, of Saskatoon, SK, on October 4, 2023, in Saskatoon.
Laura was born on November 20, 1929, in Regina, SK. The family moved to Saskatoon where she grew up, and where she met and married her life partner Ike Penner. They were married on August 6, 1949 and raised two children, Doug and Kathy. Laura worked at many different jobs. Her last position was at Sherbrook Care Home when she retired. Laura was not one to stand still, she was always volunteering for something, which gave her much joy. A long-time member of the Army Navy & Airforce Veterans Association, she spent many hours with the Ladies Auxiliary as President, working banquets and fund raising. She stepped back from catering most Saturdays at the age of 87. Her other joy was her garden, (and numerous solar lights), where you could find her out weeding early in the morning to avoid the heat of the day. But her greatest joy was her 4 grandchildren and great grandson.
Laura was predeceased by husband Ike in 2003, parents Harry and Margaret, brothers Jim, Mervyn, her sisters Lily, Electa, Isabel, Madeline, Vera, Berniece, Muriel, Mary. Left to cherish her memory is her sister Marlene; children Doug (Brenda), Kathy (Ted) grandchildren Dale (Jessica), Andrew (Tammy), Michelle (Charles), Lindsey (Kyle), great-grandson Weston, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held at the Saskatoon Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. A reception will be held at the Army, Navy & Airforce Veterans Association following the service.
Thank you to all at Oliver Lodge and Warm & Cozy that made Laura’s time with you so comfortable!
