Patti was born May 4, 1959, in the Tisdale Hospital. The Welsh family lived at Prairie River, Saskatchewan until 1962 when Doug was transferred to Weldon (Elevator Agent). Patti was baptised in the United Church, attending Sunday school and church activities in Weldon. Patti liked sports, skating, curling, school sports, horseback riding and enjoyed many hours riding her own pony. Patti loved to gather with family and friends. Patti attended Weldon public school for grades 1-9, then bussed to Birch Hills for high school, graduating in 1977. She then moved to Prince Albert, working in the Hudson Bay Store for 2 years, then at SaskTel as an operator for 4 years. Patti married Gordon Ness in 1982, they had their 3 sons, Kyle, Kent and Kurt. They were in Winnipeg for 2 ½ years, then moved to Saskatoon in 1987.
After the boys started school, Patti worked at the Park Town Hotel Café. She then obtained her Educational Assistant certificate from SIAST and spent over 20 years working at Howard Coad Public School.
All the boys played hockey and Patti spent many hours driving them to hockey rinks across the prairies. She loved camping at Pike Lake with her boys and visiting her sister and family at Sturgeon Lake. Patti and Kevin were both active members of the Saskatoon Blues society and spent many hours volunteering with them and attending concerts.
Patti was someone who was always there for others – offering a meal, a place to crash or an ear to listen. She enjoyed music and gathering with friends and family. We all have many great memories of her laughter and kind and generous nature. She loved her kids and grandkids and never missed an opportunity to attend one of their birthday parties, sports games, or events.
Patti was diagnosed with ALS in July 2022. She dealt with her ALS with amazing courage and strength. Patti was very thankful for her many close friends and very appreciative of how supportive they were throughout her battle with ALS. Kevin was Patti’s primary caregiver and Patti was so grateful for his care and the laughter he brought into their lives. She died peacefully at Royal University Hospital on October 4th. She will be greatly missed by her family, 7 grandchildren and many close friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Grace Westminister United Church (505 10th Street East).
