Obituary of Robert Glenn McLean
Robert Glenn McLean (Bob) (aka Bump and PoPo) passed away on September 13th, 2023, at the Royal University Hospital at the age of 88 years.
Bob was born on July 22nd, 1935, in Birsay, Saskatchewan. He was educated at the Birsay school and as a young man he was active in sports, even playing hockey on same forward line with his father Allen and brother Doug (they were a force to be reckoned with) and he loved all things Cowboy.
He worked for John Kain in the hardware store and drove the school bus. Bob went east and worked for Ontario Hydro and then back to Saskatchewan to work for the PFRA (Cowboy Stuff), and Reliance Lumber. In 1962, he joined Thomas Lipton Co. as a traveling salesman and worked there until his retirement in 1998.
On March 31st, 1962 he married the love of his life Maxine Barge in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan and moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They raised 4 boys and Bob was actively involved in their lives from being a Cub Leader to a hockey coach and all around supporter of every aspect of their lives. Mom and Dad loved to entertain, especially with Bob's aunts, uncles, siblings, and the Early Drive gang. They had many great times that resulted in more fun than adults are allowed to have. Bob's special bond with his grandchildren was second to none, and he loved to nickname them (sweet pea, albert, mollie poo poo, pie, boom boom, boo boo, poodledoo, doodly doo, doo doo) and all were so so special to him. His grandchildren called him Bump.
Bob had an engaging personality and unbelievable patience that was tested daily by his 4 boys (like really tested) and was loved by all that had the privilege to meet him. He was “Simply the Best” and will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maxine; his 4 boys, Greg (Rosanna), Todd (Lori), Shawn (Linda), and Troy (Stacey); 9 grandchildren, Bobbi Rae (Ben), Amanda, Mollie, Madicen (Terrance), Miles (Hailey), Scott, Noa, Jaden and Riley; one great grandchild, Jaxson (who shares Bob’s birthday); siblings, Doug (Vera), Elaine (Ned), Donelda (Lowell), and Donavon (Heather); and many nieces and nephews that loved him greatly.
