Mary and I are saddened to hear of this news. We met David and Sandy when we all were on Farm Radio International's Ghana tour. We visited a variety of farms and villages, and David was interested in everything that he came across. I spent a fair amount of time with David, as we were of a similar age, and I felt that he and I developed a good understanding of what the purpose of the tour was about, and how FRI was able to help small scale farmers in Ghana, and other African nations. David was witty, sincere, genuine, and an all around 'good guy', and I thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent together. Mary remembers Sandy for the care she took with her father, and the fact she travelled with him on an interesting, but very hot, trip around Ghana. We send our best to his family, and hope that the the lifetime of memories they have will comfort them during this time.

I had the pleasure and privilege of working with David at Gardiner Dam Terminal. We first met when I was assigned by my employer, Agricore, as support for the share sales team. I was so inspired by David and the other founders I applied to be the first General Manager. I was lucky enough to get that job. I worked 8 years with David as one of the board members and eventually the Chairman of The Board. I greatly appreciated David’s honesty, insight and wisdom. His genuine care about all the communities that GDT served was evident at every step along the way. His contributions to the leadership of GDT cannot be underestimated. David was a man of integrity, intelligence and compassion.
I was at the service today and I wish to commend Susan, Jennifer and Sandy on doing such an awesome job of honouring their father’s life. It is easy to see why he was so proud of his family. My condolences for your loss and we were all better people for knowing him.

You can shed tears that he is gone, Or you can smile because he lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back, Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him, Or you can be full of the love that you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he is gone, Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. lou can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn back, Or you can do what he would want:
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Our David
Our David lived for his family; and I was privileged to be part of it as an English Cousin!
My memories of David go back many many years all are filled with love; fun and laughter! We lived such a long distance from each other but when we either saw or spoke it was like we’d only seen each other yesterday, we had a very deep and loving bond.
Happy funny memories of a family trip to Canada in 1980… travelling from Saskatoon to Regina… counting children in and out of the car to make sure we hadn’t lost or worse gained one! Staying in Roleau with Elaine’s parents and David pulling Grandma’s leg because she’d put the red wine in the fridge along with the white!
1981 A Pederson family holiday to England, when our Kay was christened and had David and Elaine as her godparents.tithe family turning up saying “it’s us in the mini-bus!” Then David’s roar of laughter when Anna said “Uncle David it’s chucking it down!”
2005 Another wonderful holiday, the highlights of which we’re seeing the RCMP Musical ride and of course Saskatchewan Express- never to be forgotten.
Staying at the farm….David determined to show us some wild life as we’d seen none in the Rockies, but the neighbours herd of Buffalo were no where to be seen, however on the trip home from dropping us in Saskatoon a whole host of wildlife put in an appearance… typical.
Ah yes, that memorable morning when we had a cold shower- Merv was convinced that was the norm for Prairie folks.
Our David was ankle deep in water in the basement trying to fix the furnace electrics….”Can’t understand why this has gone wrong, we only got it in 1972….but fixit he did. Think it might have been replaced by now.
The most recent memory is of a cold , wet and windy day in London when David and Sandy were on their way to Ghana. A brisk walk in Kensington Park followed by a visit to a couple of Cockney pubs, a wonderful happy day where we talked non stop and shared lots of memories and lots of laughter too.
I could go on and on but David you were a gentleman, no finer man wore shoe leather, as Aunty Ada always said.
It was our privilege to have been part of you family and life and will miss you for ever.
Love you our David.

I met David at Parkville Manor. He tried to teach me cribbage but he was so much better than I :-). What a gentle compassionate man. We had an africa connection as I grew up in Zambia. It was obvious his Ghana trip meant a lot to him. Be assured of my prayers in this tough time. Sherrill Hetherington
