Obituary of Frances Hrycan

Frances Hrycan (nee Semcyshen)

November 7, 1927 – September 5, 2023

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Frances Hrycan on September 5th, 2023 at the age of 96 at St. Paul’s Hospital. Frances is survived by her loving family: Mike Hrycan (Jannelle & Murray Ernst, Jace Hrycan, Jeff Hrycan, Joel Hrycan & Lainee Zaparaniuk), Shirley & Don McAllister (Lindsay & Tyler Lehman, Nicole McAllister & Mathew Arsenault), Beverly & Brian Scott, Barbara & Brent Black (Chelsey & Josh Kurtz, Jocelyn & Jared Holt, Justin Black), Christine & Mike Kuiack (Chrissie Hrycan); her nieces and nephews; and 14 great grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter; her parents, Mike and Tina Semcyshen; her brothers, Jack and Don.

Frances was born in Prud’homme on November 7, 1927. She was married to Peter on October 11, 1947. Those who knew Frances would say she was the sweetest lady. Frances spent many hours in her garden at home and on the farm. Her family have happy memories of special celebrations spent together with Frances. She will be very dearly missed.

Frances valued her time spent connecting with the staff and residents of Preston Park II. Her family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses for the exceptional care at St. Paul’s Hospital on Medicine 614 and Palliative Care. Mom was at peace after receiving the prayer of absolution at the hospital.

To honor her request, a private funeral was held on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Saskatoon Funeral Home with Rt. Rev. Bohdan Demczuk presiding. Internment took place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
