Obituary of Ken Briske

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Briske, 77 years of age from Lanigan, on Saskatchewan on Thursday August 31, 2023, at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.

Ken was born on March 11, 1946, in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

He started his schooling at Prairie Rose, went onto Horton, Jansen and then finished his education in Lanigan. Upon completing school, Ken headed for the city of Winnipeg to work for the T. Eaton Company. This was quite a change for a farm boy. When April came, he left and headed back to the farm. Shortly after, he briefly worked at the Lanigan Potash mine.

Ken began farming with his father in 1968 and also started a cattle herd. In 1970, Ken married Irene Leggott and went on to have three children. In 1982, Ken took over the family farm.

Ken was very active in the Jansen & District Kinsmen Club. He served one year as Deputy Governor in zone 3 from 1984-1985. He helped with the construction of the bowling alley and the first of July fireworks.

Ken farmed until 1998. He then rented out the land and began working for Jansen Services before retiring in December 2015. In 2017, Ken and Irene moved into Lanigan. He enjoyed visiting with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren which he was very proud of. He also enjoyed travelling to Mexico and making trips to Alberta. In 2012, he travelled to Australia where his son Colin was living at the time and gave him an extensive tour of Western Australia.

Ken is survived by his loving wife Irene, his son Aron (Kristie Tempel-Briske), granddaughter Jordynn (Regan Dupperon), great-grandchildren Caroline, Benjamin and Theodore, daughter Susan (Jeff Lemire), grandchildren Vivianne and Louis, son Colin (Vicki Venedam), brother Bob (Lori) and niece Heather, and was predeceased by his parents Adolph and Cecelia.

A Celebration of Ken’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Jansen Community Hall (Holloway St, Jansen, SK, S0K 2B0)
