Obituary of Lan Heung Yu
The family is saddened to announce the passing of Lan Heung (Mak) Yu on August 19, 2023 at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She was born on October 26, 1926 in Toisan, Guangdong, China and immigrated to Saskatoon in 1980.
She was predeceased by her father Sack Wing Mak and mother Kam Mon Dong, her husband Siu Cheong Yu, and her daughter Mary Mark. She is survived by her daughter Leslie, sons Peter (Yvonne) and grandson Stan (Margot), Michael (Jenny) and grandson Justin, Johnny (Grace) and granddaughter Topaza, her son in law Tom Mark, her granddaughters Annie (Allan) and great grandsons Alexander and Aidan, Kit (Nathan) and great grandchildren Nola, Nika, Neve, and Nano, and her brother Frank (Elaine) and nieces Sophia, Sylvia, and Amy and their families.
Lan was a very smart, brave, and sweet person. She faced much adversity during her life in China including war and political upheaval. In Canada she also continued to experience many challenges but she was able to overcome them! She always put her family first and loved them very much. She had a great sense of humour and had the most interesting stories! She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She loved listening to Chinese opera. She also had an interest in Chinese Herbal Medicine and was always experimenting with different herbs and learning about different ailments. She will be missed and we are forever grateful for the time we had with her and all that we learned from her!
We would like to thank the Royal University Hospital emergency staff for their compassionate care. The funeral will be held at Saskatoon Funeral Home located at 338 Fourth Avenue North on Friday August the 25th at 2pm and interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Supper will be held at the Mandarin Restaurant.
