Obituary of Marvin Walter Wiese

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Marvin Walter Wiese age 73, of Saskatoon Saskatchewan, July 30,2023 at St Paul’s Hospital

Marv was born December 11, 1949 in Red Deer Alberta to Martha and Walter Wiese. Marv grew up on a farm outside of Red Deer until 5 years of age and then his family moved to the town. He grew up playing hockey and fishing with friends and his parents. After high school at age 17, Marv moved to Calgary.

Marv joined the Royal Canadian Navy after high school and was stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the aircraft carrier “The Bonaventure”. He served 2 years in the Navy and then moved back to Calgary. There, he started working at Star Electric receiving his journeyman’s certificate as an Electromechanical Technician.

In 1973, Marv met the love of his life, Sally Cousins at a ski club in Calgary and they married in 1974. They moved to Quesnel BC shortly after taking a job as a foreman at P. Scheck Industrial. Their son Brad was born in 1977 and daughter Tracy was born in 1980.

In Quesnel, Marv and Sally became involved in the Kinsmen club where Marv held several executive positions in the organization and became longtime friends of other members and neighbors in the community.

In 1980 Marv and Sally moved back to Calgary where he took a position as Foreman at Star Electric.

In 1984 Marv went into partnership with Hank Wilkat to buy a business in Tisdale Saskatchewan and in 1990 became the sole owner of Tisdale Motor Rewinding LTD. He had a staff of 5 including Sally as part owner.

In Tisdale, Marv and Sally were actively involved with the K-40 Club where they formed lifelong friendships with their friends in Kin. They bought a cabin at Marean Lake in 1991 and spent every weekend there with their kids and friends for the next 20 years.

Marv enjoyed golfing and had a huge lifelong passion for fishing. He loved taking people out in his boat at Marean Lake, whether it was first time fishers or seasoned veterans, sharing his knowledge and expertise of the sport. Marv would spend countless hours trying to catch “the big one” out in his fishing boat and had many exciting tales about his journeys. It was one of his passions he shared with his kids Brad and Tracy as well.

In 2013 Marv was elected Town Councilor for the town of Tisdale and served 4 years. Prior to that he served as President of the Chambers of Commerce on the library board and museum board. His love for the community and the growth for the Town of Tisdale was endearing. Marv was also a member of the Tisdale Royal Canadian Legion, and a supporter of the Tisdale Wildlife Association. He was very actively involved with Ducks Unlimited of Canada.

In 2019, Marv was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and despite his recovery of the cancer, he was left with many complications which attributed to certain life challenges.

In 2021, Marv and Sally decided to retire after 37 years of successful business and sell Tisdale Motor Rewinding. They bought a comfortable townhome in a nice community in Saskatoon. They had plans to travel to visit friends and family all over Canada in their retirement years.
