Obituary of Jan Stephanie Lloyd-Vossen
The family of Jan Lloyd-Vossen are saddened to announce her sudden and unexpected death on Sunday, July 9th/2023 at Royal University Hospital. We are utterly heartbroken. The loss of our vibrant, funny and compassionate Mom as the heart of our family is beyond words.
She was predeceased by her father (John “Jack” Butler Lloyd) and survived by her mother (Fern Lloyd), her husband (Glen Vossen) with their three children, Meghan Vossen-Anweiler (Chris), Michael Vossen (Sarah) and Daniel Vossen, two grandchildren Cole and Evie as well as her siblings Don (Vivian) and Brenda (Tom).
She was born in Kamsack, SK on March 18th/1958 and grew up in Prince Albert with her tight-knit family. She shone in horse-riding competitions, was president of her graduating class and then found her calling as a Registered Nurse.
Jan met the love of her life, Glen in 1982 and they were married in 1985. They and their three children lived all over the prairies with countless memories, stories and laughs along the way. She loved working in the yard, reading by the fire, “pic-a-nics” on the front steps with her grandkids and trips up the lake with her family.
She excelled in her nursing career, specializing in Emergency and Critical Care while eventually taking on the role of Nurse Educator to foster countless students into the profession she was so proud of. Jan won the President’s Medal of Excellence in Teaching multiple times, and even turned it down after subsequent wins. She was revered by her students for her intelligence, tenacity and kindness. It seems every other nurse in the hospital would smile and say “Oh I love your mom! She taught me!”. For this we are so very proud of her.
At home, she was the “hub” of our family who we knew as being warm, hilarious and hard-working. It is because of her that we are the people we are today and remain very close as a family. How we would so look forward to the daily calls where she would throw her head back and laugh at a funny story, check in about your day or make countless convoluted family plans for dinner or trips to the cabin. You never went more than a day without hearing how much she loved you and was proud of you.
Jan was cherished by her family, friends, colleagues, students and patients. You couldn’t hope to meet a more down-to-earth, charming or lovable woman. We are simply adrift without her.
The family would like to thank everyone who’s reached out and request that in lieu of food or flowers (our freezers and tables are now full!) that cash donations please be made to family at megvossen@gmail.com so we may donate to a charity of Jan’s choosing.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, July 21st/2023 at Holy Spirit Parish at 11:00am. All are welcome to attend.
