It is with deep sorrow that the family of J.W. Charles "Chuck" Pritchard announces his passing at the age of 87 after a brief hospital stay.
Chuck will be remembered by his wife of 58 years, Mary; his two sons, Trevor (Ella) and Graham (Danielle); his surviving sisters Diane and Gwen; and numerous friends and members of his extended family.
Born in Winnipeg in 1936, Chuck was a talented athlete as a young man, winning awards in diving and helping to organize the city’s water polo community. He later met Mary when he moved to Regina in 1962. They married, lived in Regina for 14 years, moved to Ottawa for a short time, and then settled in Saskatoon to raise a family.
Chuck was also an accomplished salesman, working over the course of his career in the printing, power tool and automobile industries. For a brief time, he was part of the front office of the Saskatoon Riot, an independent baseball team that played in the city in the mid-1990s. Baseball was an inescapable part of family life, and even in his later years, with his eyesight fading, Chuck would station himself in front of the television and ask for regular updates on the Toronto Blue Jays game.
As befitting a good salesperson, Chuck could be stubborn and hard to say no to. But he always put those traits in service of his family and ensuring his kids, especially, had as much success and happiness as possible. A small service will be held at the Saskatoon Funeral Home on Monday July 24th at 2:00 p.m., with a viewing at 1p.m, followed by a private reception at the family home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SPCA.
