Obituary of Patricia Anne Tuttroen
Patricia Anne Tuttroen
October 14, 1949 – June 2, 2023
The family of Pat Tuttroen is immensely saddened to announce her passing after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Rosetown, SK to Avery and Irene McConnell, third of six children, she grew up on the family farm near Wiseton. She gave birth to her first son, Bryan, in 1968. Bryan was placed for adoption, but they would be reunited in 2010 and would enjoy a close relationship ever since. She later moved to Saskatoon where she continued her career at Toronto Dominion Bank and there she eventually met her future husband of 41 years, Bill Tuttroen. They were married July 12, 1982. Pat’s second son, Ryan was born in 1984, followed by her daughter Chantal in 1986.
Once Ryan and Chantal were born, Pat transitioned into being a stay-at-home mom. In her spare time, she enjoyed socializing with her many friends, bowling, and watching the kids play sports. She and the family spent the summers and countless weekends at their cabin at Weyakwin Lake. Pat considered the lake to be her little piece of paradise. Pat made countless friends at the lake and over time became a pillar of the community, volunteering many hours for the cottage owners association and the snowmobile club. Pat loved to spend time fishing, picking blueberries, cranberries and mushrooms, and lounging on the beach.
Pat and Bill loved the lake so much that they decided it would be the perfect place to retire. They moved up to the lake permanently in 2007 and have enjoyed every second of lake life since then. Pat grew very fond of the daily trips to the village for coffee, monthly potlucks at the hall, and playing cards and other games.
One of Pat’s greatest joys at the lake was her vast collection of begonias. The front deck and yard is where she proudly displayed her 100 plus begonia plants, supplemented in later years by dahlias, Calla lilies and Canna lilies. She was the self-proclaimed Begonia Queen.
Pat was well known for her delicious cooking and amazing desserts. Pushing food was definitely her love language. She was a generous host, loved to entertain, and welcomed all who walked through her door.
Through Pat’s illness, her goal was to survive long enough to meet her new grandson, Ramsey. We were so happy to see her achieve that goal. During her final week, she spent many hours holding Ramsey, and would light up any time he came for a visit.
Pat was predeceased by her parents, Avery and Irene (Pateman) McConnell, her mother-in-law Mildred Tuttroen, her sisters-in-law, Maureen McConnell and Donna Tuttroen, her brothers-in-law Bob and John Tuttroen and numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband, Bill, her son Bryan (Monica) Johnson and their children Colton and Dale, her son Ryan (Autumn), her daughter Chantal (Mitch) and their son, Ramsey, her brothers, Don (Carol), Ron (Darlene), Keith, and Malcolm (Judy), her sister Dianna (Doug), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
We would like to thank the staff of Royal University Hospital, specifically the nursing staff, the palliative care team, the MAID team, and Alexa, her social worker, for the compassionate care that they provided throughout her stay.
It was Pat’s wish that no funeral be held. Instead, a celebration of life will be held at a later date at Weyakwin Lake.
