To the Ledingham family.
When I recently heard of Al's death I was shocked and deeply saddened. Memories of my days as Principal came flooding back to me. I always looked forward to his visits. He would stride in and waste no time assessing the situation and usually dealt with any issues immediately. Wayne and I also knew Al and Rita socially. Great dinner parties at their house.
My deepest condolences,
Darcey Kerr

Al Ledingham was principal at Walter Murray than an Board Super when I was a student with Donna and my dad was on his staff. Dad didn't have much use for principal's as he didn't much like being told what to do, but his attitude was different in regards to Al. Al had the respect of my dad and his students. A leader in his vocation and his community who made things better. Our deepest condolences to the Ledingham family. Lane Wallace

Although Al was a family friend I first really got to know him personally when I was a student at Evan Hardy. He was an awesome teacher. His sense of humour was evident in every class. He was able to bring fun to the study of geometry. I also understood how he had been such an influence on developing the school community at Evan Hardy as it opened. I was one who was immersed in the life of EHCI. I was sad to see of his passing and wish his family my condolences. He has always held a special place in my heart...

Al Ledingham was a great human being.
I was lucky to be one of his students at Evan Hardy in the early days of the school. I also saw him in action as head coach of the Hilltops, due to my father's association with the team.
Al led by example. He was honest, direct, fair-minded, and highly principled. He was a gentleman and a natural leader.
May his family find strength and comfort from a life well lived.

To Donna, Greg and all the Ledingham family.
We have lost an incredible friend and colleague. A man who has been an important part of our lives since our late teens.
As part of the original Evan Hardy faculty, Al played a critical role in establishing a marvellous institutional ethic. His leadership in academics, athletics and and staff cohesion was exemplary. A few years later, as an administrator, he was cited by his staff as the best Principal in our teaching careers.
Al's profound interest in, leadership and knowledge of football was a vehicle that helped scores of young men to realize their potential as athletes and citizens. He retained acute interest and knowledge of all sports until his final days.
Al and Rita were a splendid couple who shared their zest for life with innumerable friends. They are greatly missed and always remembered.
John and Barbara Mooney.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Alan Ledingham. His daughter Donna relayed such admiration for the values her Dad instilled in her and the community of education/sports which were a huge part of his passion. Losing a father and friend take from us each day - hold on to the great memories to cherish to help soften the heavy hearts over the upcoming months ahead. Stay well.

Coach Ledingham impacted more young men in a year than the average person does in a lifetime. Made us all stronger trying to emulate this examples as he was one of the principled men I've ever met. Al say hello to Eagle and rest in peace in Heaven's end zone.

Our sincere condolences to the Ledingham family. Al was always a sincere and honest person and up-to-date in many areas which made visits fun and interesting. He had a wonderful ability to stay in contact with many longtime friends and was always an excellent source of information about how they were doing. Karen and I enjoyed many social functions with Al and Rita. We always looked forward to their joy in life and senses of humour.
Football and education were among his many passions. I played football with Al and we were part of the Saskatoon education and football coaching communities. Among the many memories is a trip to a sports clinic in Spokane that Al organized. Vince Lombardi and staff presented the football portion of the clinic. Of course it was Al who knew Lombardi would be there.
Karen enjoyed and highly respected Al when she worked with him at Evan Hardy Collegiate and when they were both administrators in the Saskatoon Public School system.

Though I never played football or took a class from Al, I got to know him when he spent my senior year at Walter Murray in 1964-65. I got to know him better when I was in University as he coached the Hilltops and later the Huskies.
Coach Al as I called him we really to got know each other over the years when I moved to Calgary. We used to visit when he came through Calgary on his way to his Canmore property, or vice versa with Spero and Georgia Leakos and whoever else was available. We had some great lunch sessions at various locations in Calgary solving all the football problems and other issues in the world.
We kept in touch regularly as recent as a month I ago when I spoke with him.
I have lost a great friend as have many others who knew him. He was a fabulous coach, teacher, but above all a fabulous human being who influenced the lives of numerous individuals.
I will genuinely miss the conversations I always had with him.

We are saddened with this news and extend our condolences. Bob and Al had a connection as far back as students at CPCI and, although distantly, over the years as educators, but always , wonderfully friendly and inclusive. He always called Bob, "Diltsy", with that sharp, staccato cadence . Latterly, Bob was a colleague and friend as administrators in the Central Office. Eleanor , as a principal, respected Al's commitment , appreciation, and care in his and her role. Rita and Al visited the Dilts in Oak Bay in Victoria. Great guy, that Al! He and Rita are fondly remembered.

Al was a dear friend and team mate when both of us played for the Hilltops. Of course we knew his wife Rita as well. They were a wonderful couple. When you were a friend of Al you were in it for the long haul. There are a number of his old team mates that have ended up in the Toronto area and he remained a loyal friend to all of us. Al was the smartest athlete that I've ever known and that's likely why he made such a good coach. We lost a true brother.
Sincere condolences,
Ivan (Chuck) Gullickson

Our condolences to you, Donna and Greg, Your Dad was a truly good man. He cared deeply for all of the people he worked with - students, staff and the whole community he lived in. I had the privilege of knowing him from elementary school years, through high school, engineering and then as a colleague. We taught together at WMCI, became vice-principals the same year, later as the admin team at Bedford, then finally downtown in the Board Office. He was great to work for and with. Beyond that, Rita and Al were good friends of ours. We will miss him, but treasure all the memories we have of working together.

To the family, my sincerest condolences, it's a huge lose.
For you Al...thank you Coach!!
Thank you for guiding me in my early formative years and with football at Bedford Road Collegiate, then with the Saskatoon Hilltops and then on the U of S Huskies and ultimately to a contract with the Montreal Alouettes.
Yes you were strict and hard nosed but very knowledgeable while demanding nothing less than disciplined excellence from all and this was one of the basic building blocks of my entire life in general...so Coach you "done real good" and again thank you for everything, you are missed!!! ... To the Ledingham family,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Al. Was very fortunate to have Coach Ledingham during my time with the Hilltops. An amazing coach and an even better man. At our most recent reunion I was able to have a meaningful chat with him. Learning of his passing makes that moment that much more special. Rest easy Coach, rest easy.

Al was my grade nine home room teacher at Bedford Road. We were a very diverse group of students but he kept us all in line. I remember him coming into the classroom, and confirming his the rumours about President Kennedy being assassinated were true. He, as we’re all of us, was stunned by this moment in history.
When I met him many years later, when I was teaching, he referred back to that day and how much the event had impacted all of us.
Your dad/grandfather was a great guy, who always tried his best, and cared for all he worked with.
