Obituary of Phyllis Richardson

The family of Phyllis Irene Richardson are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of their dear mother and grandmother. Phyllis’s life was all about her family. She was born in 1923 and raised and educated in Saskatoon. Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by Lorne, her loving husband of 68 years; three sons: Douglas (Jocelyn) and grandchildren, Brennan, Galen, and Ciara of Saskatoon, Blair (Kristin) and grandchildren Devon, Zachary, Mackenzie and Kendall of Denver, Colorado, Kent (Mary Kae) and grandchildren, Paige, Rosalyn and John Lorne of Calgary, AB. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Betty Wright of Saskatoon, May Blunden of Kimberly BC and Margret Richardson of Saskatoon as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. She was predeceased by her parents, Sam and Ada Wright, her brothers Wilbur, George and Cliff and sister Norah (Jim) McGaffin of Edmonton. Phyllis attended Albert School, Nutana High School and Saskatoon Technical Institute where she received her Secretarial Training. Her early career was in advertising at the Star Phoenix and then joined an optometric office in the Canada Building. In August 1947 she married Lorne Richardson and dedicated her life to his happiness and the care of his diabetes as well as the raising of three wonderful sons. Phyllis loved family life, the community, and the opportunity to serve. In her young adult years she was the President of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She served as President of the Kinette and K-ette Clubs. She was a long time member and honored life member of the Royal University Hospital Woman’s Auxiliary. For more than 50 years she was an active member of Knox United Church and with Lorne they were presented with the Stewardship Award in 2008. She valued the opportunity, and lasting friendships developed as a member of the Fellowship Committee at Knox United Church. The experience and lasting friendships of many organizations formed a great direction for her life. She had a special love for antiques and traditions of the past. Health failed her in recent years and she has been well cared for at Oliver Lodge in Saskatoon. Funeral

A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Knox United Church (838 Spadina Cres. East) with lunch to follow.
