Ronald John Swann

(August 11, 1945 - April 7, 2023)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ron Swann in his home on April 7, 2023 at the age of 77. Ron is survived by his son, Ken (Andrea) Swann; his son Darren (Kathy Cho) Swann ; his son Jason (Monika Kotekova) Swann; grandchildren Seraphina, Hannah, Samuel, Riley and Monika’s daughter Ella .  He is also survived by his sister Sharyn (Rod MacIntyre) Swann, brother Dave (Lena Sangret) Swann, brother-in-law Fred (Joan) Biddulph, sister-in-law Pat ( Ken) Romanchuk and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his wife Doreen and daughter Rhonda.

Ron was born and grew up in Edmonton on the family chicken farm until 1953 when the family moved to Regina.  A final move to Saskatoon occurred in 1961 and Ron graduated High school from Walter Murray Collegiate in 1963. He met the love of his life in 1965 while attending university and was married to Doreen in 1966.  They enjoyed 46 years of marriage until Doreen’s passing in 2012.

Ron graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1968 with a degree in social work and was a career social worker for the Government of Saskatchewan.  He took the opportunity for early retirement at age 52 to pursue his many other passions.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed finding out new facts and trivia.  He travelled many times with Doreen before her passing and enjoyed woodworking and models.  As each grandchild was born he would create a handmade dollhouse (or garage for Sam) to gift them for their early years.  Ron enjoyed all the family gatherings both immediate and extended,  and looked forward to every family birthday or special event.  He enjoyed camping and canoeing in his younger years. Later he was an avid participant in the annual family fishing trip and while he never won the trophy he would enjoy telling stories to everyone around the fire at night.

Ron was involved in the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation and several other organizations over the years , but Scouting was his true passion.  From a participant in his youth to over 25 years as a leader and volunteer with 56th Pacific Heights and Camp Seeonee.  He attended the Canadian Jamboree in 1989 in PEI with his troop, took them on an extended USA tour and hiked the Chilkoot Trail with the Venturers. Scouting was near and dear to Ron’s heart and he dedicated countless hours to improving generations of youth through the movement.

A celebration of life will be held at Saskatoon Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Sunday April 23, 2023.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to your local Scouting group in Ron’s name or the 56th Pacific Heights Scouts.
