Obituary of Merrick Grant Morris
With heavy hearts, the family of Merrick Morris announce his passing. Merrick passed gently in the night, unexpectedly but peacefully at home.
Merrick’s life can be summed up by this love of his family, stewardship of the land, and service to his community. He was born in Delisle at Nurse Redding’s, the local midwife. He was raised on the farm of Tom and Lily Morris, along with brothers Bob and Walt. Merrick soon began farming on his own, and ran a successful mixed farm until 2005. He had the honour of achieving 100 Years of Homesteading on his grandfather, Walter “Cap” Morris’s original land.
Merrick served from 1973-1996 on the RM Council of Perdue. Through that, he was involved in the Eagle Creek Park Board, and the Delisle Hospital Board. He also served on the Delisle School Board, and was operator for the Woodlawn Snowplow Club for many years.
Merrick leaves to mourn his wife of 60 years, Pat. His children will cherish his memory; son Darrin Morris, daughter Michele (Danny) Tardivel, and son Randy (Michelle) Morris. His grandchildren brought him such joy; Janessa (Mike) Jones, Jade Racette (Everit), Jamie Racette (Marius), and Jace Morris. Merrick was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Harper Jones. Merrick was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Lily Morris; and his brothers Bob and Walt Morris.
Please join us for a celebration of Merrick’s life on Thursday, April 13 at the Delisle Senior Center, 309 1st St W, in Delisle at 2:00pm. Interment will be held at a later date.
