Ellen taught me first-year Property Law (and the rule against perpetuities!). I believe I received her first question in our first class following the Socratic method. I grew to appreciate not only her knowledge but her smile and gentle manner. I have never forgotten her and the privilege of being in her class.
My condolences to the family.

I will always remember Aunt Ellen as a kind soul who would always take the time to say hello and ask about how we were doing. It was great to enjoy several Christmas meals together with her and her family in Calgary… and these will remain some special moments. Our condolences to my cousins - we share in the mourning of your loss.

Dave and I are both saddened to hear of Ellen’s passing. I worked with Ellen as a summer student at the Law Reform Commission on The Married Women’s Property Act and always admired her. At that time Dave was articling with her former law firm (where he remains). We attended many events, formal and informal, and had many good times with her over a number of years. As well as her legacy to law in Saskatchewan she has left a lasting personal legacy. We will miss Ellen. Our thoughts are with her family.

I knew of Ellen before I met her. Her pioneering work in married women’s property was a wonderful contribution to law reform. She later served as a faculty member of the College of Law where she was deeply caring about her students. I was present at her swearing in as a judge and reflected upon the several dimensions of her career. To her family and in particular to Peggy who I came to know when she joined the U of S, I offer deep sympathy. Ellen left her mark and it was an enduring and positive one.
