Obituary of Arlean Esther McPherson

Passed away peacefully July 3, 2015 at 88 years of age at Luther Special Care Home, Saskatoon, Sask. She was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Mildred McPherson, her brother Lloyd McPherson and her sister Hazel Asmussen. She is survived by 7 nieces and nephews, 14 great- nieces and nephews and 6 great-great-nieces and nephews. After graduating from University, Arlean worked as a librarian for the Saskatoon Public Library at the JS Wood Branch and later worked as the Local History Librarian. She also worked for Agriculture Canada where she was responsible for the library at the Agriculture Research Station and Area Coordinator for Departmental Libraries in Saskatchewan. Later she worked in the library of St. Peter's Abbey in Muenster. Family was dear to her heart and she loved visiting her sister Hazel and family in North Battleford, her brother Lloyd, and family on the farm near Girvin. She loved people, good conversation, nature walks, travel, fine literature and classical music. In 1967 her book "The Battlefords: A History" was published. Her interest in history continued in retirement as she wrote a number of historical research reports for Saskatoon agencies. She also tackled some genealogical research and enjoyed stimulating contact with the Saskatoon Memory Writers, calligraphy artists and her book club members. She was an active member at Knox United Church receiving the Stewardship Award in 1992. The family would like to extend a thank you to her devoted friends, the wonderful staff and kind caregivers at Luther Tower and Luther Special Care Home who helped Arlean over the past few years. A special thank you to the nursing staff on 2nd floor of Luther Special Care Home who provided such compassionate care to Arlean. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to one of the following charities in Arlean's name: Luther Care Foundation, Heart and Stroke Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or Knox United Church in Saskatoon.
