Obituary of Shelley Mae Gregg

Our family is saddened to announce her passing on Tuesday Feb. 28th after her battle with cancer. We say a loving farewell to a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who cared so deeply for those around her. Shelley passed away with her family by her side in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital. She was born on November 6th, 1961, in Saskatoon. She attended Prince Philip School and later graduated in 1978 from Walter Murray High School, where Shelley met the love of her life, Jim Gregg. Jim & Shelley were married on July 28th, 1984. Shelley enjoyed working as a secretary at Aden Bowman Collegiate until starting a family in 1988. It was being at home to raise her family that was most important to her.

Those close to Shelley knew how much it meant to give back to her community, and how she rarely turned down an opportunity to volunteer. Whether it was helping with the kids' many school and sports activities or devoting herself to giving back to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre through many Choc’laCure fundraising initiatives over the last 15 years. Her incredible work during this time has helped raise millions of dollars that were used to purchase equipment in Saskatoon that has shortened wait times, and improved treatments for patients with all types of cancers. Shelley was a humble, fearless, and inspiring leader. Her efforts and ideas have touched not just those who were fortunate to meet her, but also the patients and their families who were able to access better cancer care because of her.

She spent much of her life making memories with family and friends at both Emma and McPhee Lake. Jim & Shelley loved spending time there and spent the last several years building their new beautiful cabin at the lake. Palm Springs was also a special place for Shelley where she loved hosting and entertaining many friends over the years. A master of everything she tried, her family and friends knew how talented Shelley was at cooking, crocheting, gardening, painting, & more.
Shelley was predeceased by her mother, Lynn Heppler & father in-law, Bud Gregg. She is survived and remembered with love by her father Bob Heppler & mother in-law Helen Gregg; sons Brett (Kylie) & Eric (Maya); sister Laurie (Brian) Reichle; and brother Trevor (Lori). Her grandchildren – Kate, Owen & Pierce - became most important to her over the past several years & her influence on this generation will be deeply missed. Shelley will also be missed by her many nieces & nephews – James, Jeff, Jennifer, Nikki, Jill, Luke, Jason, Justin, Gavin & Brinley. She loved her family beyond measure and always took time to make others lives a bit easier.
