Obituary of Madhuri Singh

It is with immense sadness that we announce the loss of our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister, aunt, doctor, and friend, Madhuri ("Marjorie") who passed away peacefully on February 16, 2023. She was a strong, independent, courageous, and generous woman. She was entrepreneurial, with a strong work ethic and a profound sense of duty to serve others, often requiring sacrifices. Dr. Singh was best known for her medical practice which spanned 56 years across three continents. The early years of her medical career were spent in rural India (Nasriganj) where she practiced with her late husband, Gaya Singh. They later emigrated to the United Kingdom to pursue and complete their specialty training in ob/gyn and psychiatry, respectively. They immigrated to Canada from the United Kingdom with their three children in October 1974 to North Battleford, SK. Her love for ob/gyn drew her back to the UK in 1977, before returning to Canada in 1982 to start her medical residency. She began her family practice with obstetrics in 1985. In 1992 she and Gaya built Taylor Street Medical Clinic, where they both practiced together. After the passing of Gaya in 2006, she saw that the city of Warman needed medical services. She built Gama Medical Centre, a state-of-the-art clinic, as a tribute to her late husband. Here, their combined spirit will live on.

She leaves to mourn her brothers in India, Bejoy Pandey (Pramila), Uday Krishna (late wife Pushpa), Abhay Krishna (Vibha), and hundreds of relatives. Also, her three children. Dr. Rajiva (Gwen) and children, Naresh, and Kiran. Ranjana Busch (Robert) and daughters, Anjali and Nisha. Sanjeev (Theresa) and their children, Dominique Rislund (Shawn) and two great-grandchildren, Emmitt and Kai with a third on the way, Lauren, Christian, and Madeline. For the last three years, she was cared for by incredible people who became part of the family and were there until the end and to whom we are eternally grateful, Shadia Nshime, Feteh Derese, and Jennifer Apetegbo. Shadia and her daughter, Agnes, were like daughter and grand-daughter to her.

The family wants to thank the staff at St. Paul's Hospital's 5th and 7th floors. Nurses: Candace, Mandi, Ashley, the two Christines, Erin, Abby, Judy. Drs. Mark Fenske, Nathan Degenhart, and Erika Penz.

She was predeceased by Gaya Singh (husband), Shanti Devi Pandey (mother) and Ramdut Pandey (father), Ajay Pandey (brother), and a sister lost at birth.

In the Hindu tradition, the last rights (antyeshti samskara) were performed and recorded in a private ceremony according to her wishes at the Saskatoon Funeral Home on Wednesday February 22, 2023 (available on their website), and was followed by a cremation service. The family will hold a memorial service later this year to honour her service and the thousands of lives she touched.
