Sorry for your loss. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Wes over the years on several embedded system designs. He had a great attention to detail to track the many requirements, and worked calmly under pressure. He is greatly missed!

My deepest condolences to Wes's family and loved ones for their loss. I enjoyed working with Wes very, very much. He had a wonderful knack for distilling clarity out of complexity and chaos, and he had a wonderful sense of humour and wit as well. I will sorely miss him.

I remember Wes fondly from our Sunday morning shinny games at Grosvenor Park school. I’m stunned, at a loss for words to describe how witty Wes could be at times. As a fellow Greystone Heights & EHCI alumnus. Wes was a quiet man, but incredibly intelligent. I don’t think people realize just how intelligent he was. He was also a very loving man, especially to his wife Sheila. You could just tell they were meant to be together.
Sadly, after the rink at Grosvenor Park school ceased to exist, we lost touch with each other. All these years later, my heart grieves for his wife Sheila, and their adopted children. May he rest in peace. We’ve lost a good man far too soon…

My condolences to all who love Wes. I remember him from school at Greystone Heights. As others have said, he was a quiet, intelligent student. I’m so happy to know that he never lost his wonder at science and the magic of the universe. Hugs to all.

Approximately 50 years ago, when Wes and I were in Grade 7 or 8 at Greystone Heights, I watched as Wes presented his science project in front of the class. He had made a large replica of the human circulatory system using a piece of plywood. The major veins and arteries were painted on the board and there were small balls or marbles rolling around, representing the blood. The veins and arteries had sides to them to contain the blood. Wes had set up the board so it would rock back and forth to simulate the beating of the heart, and the rocking action sent the little balls rolling along in the veins, through the heart, and then through the arteries to the lungs and the rest of the body. “My gosh!” I thought. “This guy is brilliant. I could never make a project as amazing as that.” In the 50 years since then, I have never changed my opinion of Wes’ brilliance.
Having lived in Ontario since 1981, I haven’t had the opportunity to see Wes often over the years, but when we did see each other we always had a good time and a lot of laughs. I will miss him.

We have so many wonderful memories so many great times and laughs. His sense of humour was much like Robert’s and Art and and also their geek side!! I am sure that’s why they got along so great. He will be truly missed.

Wes had a keen sense of humour... here's a letter he wrote at work about "alien" foodstuff:
To: PMC Saskatoon
Subject: Downstairs fridge contamination alert!
Importance: Low
A plastic grocery bag on the top shelf of the first floor fridge
apparently once contained a small selection of a variety of fruits,
which I'm sure looked quite edible and even delicious when they were
placed in the fridge sometime during the last millennium.
Unfortunately, the contents of this bag were not just beyond their
"best before" date, they were way beyond their "hazardous after" date.
So when I threw out the offending bag a moment ago (while simultaneously
wishing Canadian Tire sold biohazard suits), I saw that some amalgamated
brown goo from the bag of rotting produce had leaked (or possibly jumped)
onto the tops of a few drink cans below and hardened into a syrupy
(or possibly gelatinous) substance that I'm sure any discriminating corpse
in an advanced state of decay would love to have on their waffles.
And while I thought that I managed to clean up all of the slime trail
that leaked from the bag onto the floor during the fear-soaked trip
from the fridge to the garbage can, I have since realized that my shoes
now have traction like never before. So I may have missed some.
Anyway, I ran hot water over the unlucky cans until the putrid slime had
sloughed away, but I cannot guarantee that other cans (even on the bottom shelf)
were not also contaminated in less obvious ways by the malodorous and
possibly malignant fruit cocktail.
You may ask, what have we learned from this gross and traumatic experience?
Lesson #1:
You may want to give serious consideration to imbibing all of your canned beverages
from secondary containers rather than direct from the can.
Lesson #2:
Regarding science experiments, please do try this at home, not at work...

Condolences and hugs to Sheila, Veronica and Tara. Brenda, Tanaya and I are thinking of you and of Wes. He was a wonderful man.
I got to know Wes through the Children's Bridge Foundation, because we were part of the same group of parents travelling to China to adopt in 2010. I can literally say I've been halfway around the world with him. We were lucky to become friends with the other parents (3 couples from Saskatoon, 1 from Regina and 1 from Toronto) and have remained friends for many years now. I will miss Wes's wonderful sense of humour. And will miss going to movies with him and Robert. And I'll especially miss him at our China family gatherings.
Hugs from all of us,
Art, Brenda and Tanaya

In the 1970’s there was a Canadian electronics hobby magazine called ETI. In one issue in 1978 there was an article about a game you could type into your HP programmable calculator. I didn’t have an HP calculator but the article was very well written about madman firing a missile and you having to intercept it and shoot it down. The game and entertaining article were written by someone named Wes Potter from Saskatoon. Hmmm, I think “There is a guy who sits in front of me in Owen Mann’s Strength of Materials class with an HP67 calculator and his name is Wes Potter”. So after the next class I asked him about it and sure enough it was the same Wes Potter. So that is how I met Wes; because of his love of technology and his entertaining writing. Russ and I were already friends (met in drafting class). Wes introduced us to Gary and the four of us became close friends, which has continued for the last 45 years. I no longer have the magazine but I found a scan here: https://worldradiohistory.com/CANADA/ETI/70s/ETI-CA-1978-08.pdf (page 63).
