Mervin was working above the bird cage with Terry years ago cutting hairs..I was just a few doors away..so it was only natural we met.Over time,we had some strange but intersting adventures.Cory & Shaw along with Becky and Matthew would arrive home from school and Johnnie would be there for the then mervin woud get home from along days work. Merv dug a hole in his basment and installes a cedar round hot tub which was really great as just a few steps away was the sauna he built.(years ater,he built a sauna in my cabana).I recall now,how in the evenings he was always busy with something,He bought a cargo van and presto..into a custon travel van.windows and all.so cool..
Alas,I was not there for his wedding as I was by then living in the Philippines but I did meet Carol several years later. To be brief, I wa at the lake with Carol and Mervin a month before his passing..
To sum up..Mervin was loved. can a man ask for more?

I was 15 when Merv first cut my hair in the basement of the Ritz. I was in grade 9, over 50 years ago. Merv and I shared a lot in common from politics to the same tv channels. We occasionally ran into each other at the most unlikely events. The last time I saw Merv was in the line for a vaccine at the end of September. It was then he told my wife and I about his initial cancer diagnosis. It was a long wait that day but we thoroughly enjoyed spending our time visiting with Merv. Little did we know it would be our last visit with him. We’ll miss his humour, wit and his viewpoint on life and all political matters! We will miss his friendship. Our condolences to Carol and family. May your many memories of Merv bring you comfort in the days ahead. "TV Gary" & Linda

Merv was not only my Barber, but also a good friend. When I got my haircut we only talked about drums as this is what we both loved. He will be truly missed. My deepest sympathy to all of the family. Ray Wachs

We are so sorry to hear of Merv’s passing. He was a great and very interesting fellow. I met Merv in the basement of the Ritz and followed him to all of his locations. Always looked forward to my visits with him. Discussing many subjects and always many laughs. Introduced my bros and good friends and they were hooked immediately. Merv was very much at home on his drummers stool. Eagle Creek will miss Merv too.
Sincerely,
Daryl Jorgenson.

My sincerest condolences to Merv’s family. I had the honour of being his client, friend and Family Physician. I always enjoyed my visits to Merv who did his best to make me better looking and presentable in spite of inherent limitations. Leila and I will be thinking of him while we sit my on beach in Puerto Vallarta, one of his popular vacation spots. May his memory be a blessing

My last hair cut was in December and when he finished I said ‘Geez Merv it looks the same as before’. His reply was ‘It’s winter you keep your hair longer’ and so my hair hasn’t been cut since! I always enjoyed seeing him whether in the chair or socially at Pike Lake. Our condolences to Carol and families Brian & Randi Clark

I was very sad to hear of Merv’s passing. I was a client for 40 years. I very much enjoyed my monthly visits with him and considered him a friend. As noted in the obituary, he loved to discuss world issues - particularly politics. I am somewhat left leaning and Merv and I had very different opinions. But the discussions were always engaging and friendly.
I am out of the country and will not be able to attend the funeral but I will be thinking of my friend and his family. He will be greatly missed.
Joel Hesje KC.
