Kris - It was with great sadness that I heard of your dad's passing. Although I never met him, through our one time frequent conversations about aging parents and listening to you recount many a colourful story, I felt I knew him. The anecdotes you told of the Vanguard grocery, coffee row and, in later times, of your dad's move into your Saskatoon home, left me with a picture of a warm, charming, outgoing and loving man. I have missed our chats these last few years and the tales about your dad. Perhaps someday soon we'll resume our "water cooler" talks and I'll have the chance to learn more about your father and his many adventures. My deepest condolences to you and the Seto family. My sincere condolences to the family. I think every kid in at least a 50 mile radius remembers going to the Vanguard pool in the summer, and of course Guy's Confectionary. Every kid was met with a smile, a greeting, and offered a treat, even though we were probably soggy and barefoot. Getting to say hi to Guy was part of the fun of the outing. Kindness is never forgotten, and Guy shared that far and wide.

My deepest sympathies to the Seto family. Guy was a very good friend of my dads(Gabe Silbernagel). I remember sitting many times at the long counter in the Seto cafe in Mankota with my dad visiting with Guy. He was always very nice, well liked. He would tease me about wagon wheels, my favourite. I also remember sitting there many times with Julie and Guy behind the counter talking to us and sitting at our kitchen table visiting with my mom and dad. They thought a lot of him. He was a special person.
My thoughts are with you. Janice Orschy(nee Silbernagel).

Guy Seto lived out his life wholeheartedly demonstrating his values of generosity, kindness, positivity, equality, and trust, in our community. It was always a joy to visit Guy's confectionery throughout my childhood. It was not about the treats; but rather Guy's amazing smile and demeanor. He knew us all by name, and made each one of us feel special! He and his wife raised a lovely, talented and successful family. May his family experience peace despite sorrow, as they remember Guy's influential life. Beverley Wharton (Kelly)

Condolences to the Seto family. Guy will be missed by all who had the opportunity to meet him.
Like many people who have commented, I grew up with the Seto family and was rewarded with the kindness and generosity of Guy whenever you ran into him. He never failed to recognize the hundreds/ thousands of people who grew up in Vanguard and surrounding area, often after many years since he last saw you. Many generations have benefited from his generosity at the Cafe. Often my sisters kids commented on how Guy recognized them after meeting them once , spoke with them as friends and offered many treats.
Guy's kindness and thoughtful words will stay with all of us forever! The Vanguard community was a better place with your open arms and kind words. Your memories will be with the community for decades to come.
Your legacy remains... you will be missed.

We were so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. Guy was such an integral part of “growing up in Vanguard.” Guy’s Lunch & Grocery was a gathering place for the young and old alike. Coffee Row in the morning, treats in the afternoon, and football, basketball, etc. in the evening. His kind demeanour was a gift to all. His memory was astonishing! He never forgot a face or name no matter how long it had been since he last saw the individual. My most vivid memory was the Russia/Canada hockey series in 1972. I happened to be in the cafe at the time and your Dad almost jumped over the counter when Paul Henderson scored the winning goal. His excitement and enthusiasm for life was infectious! The Vanguard community was better because of Guy.

Often the sweet smells of Chinese soup was wafting thru the store. May nodding sweetly and guiding you thru the isle. What made it special was Guys smile, the sparkle in his eye and his memory of EVERY single person who walked through that store!
