David Zelisney posted a condolence

Sadly, I just discovered the obituary/notice about Norman today (November 11, 2023). It's such a long time since I saw Norman. I think he was selling life insurance back in 1970. I went to school with Norman at Wilson and CPCI. As well, we trekked over to Caswell Hill for violin lessons although he was more advanced. I believe he played in the Junior Symphany Orchestra. I remember that time he climbed to the top of the Robin Hood Mills and made a "liquid contribution" below. He seems to have had a very interesting life. I would have like to visit his train station in Grandora. Rest in Peace, my friend. David (Hyde) Stuart Zelisney.

Norm's journey on earth came to an end January 19, 2023.
I'm proud and privileged to call him my big brother.
He was a passionate, principled man throughout his whole life.
If you were his friend, he was stong, loyal, and steadfast, always.
He had a very low tolerance for bullshit, and if you were full of it,
He'd be happy to let you know.
He was my date for my first Mobil Grain Christmas party,
and became an instant and constant friend of the Affleck family.
That's when his life as a railroader began.
He was the only rairoader in the world to start his career at 64 years old.
He started training with Yvan Charbonneau's guidance,
and soaked up all the rules and procedures like a sponge.
Any time he was riding a train, he always wore a huge grin,
because he just loved it.
About 5 years ago he began his battle with the cancer monster, and had to end his time as a conductor.
He then took over crew transportation, and was the best driver, ever.
All his years in trucking and taxi made him a solid professional behind the wheel.
We had a hard time finding any other drivers that came anywhere close to Norm's high standards'
until his daughter Michele came to work for Big Sky Rail.
She's a consumate pro, just like her old man.
Norm was so proud of her because she's just like him,
Stong, steady, and dependable.
It was a blessing to have Norm back home at the Grandora station to
Celebrate His Life,
Surrounded by his loving family.
Rest easy Norm.
Love,
Your little brother,
Lorne.

Norman was such a unique guy. To renovate and treasure a piece of history like the train station set him apart. He had such wide ranging skills and interests he made a visit memorable every time. Harold and I one time took students who visited the farm, Katia (from Peru) and Laura (from Venezuela) to visit Norm (and others) at his sailboat - he was so interested and welcoming - making sure everyone had a great time, and we did! He made memories for folk. Methinks we can learn much from those with adventurous spirit like Norm had. Harold and I will miss him.
