My Father, Joe Balcaen, always treasured his relationship with Ron. I didn't realize until after Dad's passing how close they were in age - they almost grew up together! Ron played an amazing poignant & beautiful violin solo at Dad's funeral & I will never forget how his violin playing fill everyone with such emotion. Thank you for that Ron!
Marge & John, please accept my heartfelt condolences & prayers.
Love, Denise Balcaen

My condolences to Marjorie and all her family. I have fond memories of Ron while living in Toronto. I was then married to his cousin Judith O'Hara....

Huge hugs to Auntie Marge and all my dearest cousins and their kids! Uncle Ron had such a vibrant and caring personality, he touched the heart of everyone who had the honour of speaking with him! My earliest memory of Uncle Ron, was when my mother, Auntie Marge’s sister took me to Saskatoon for Auntie Kathy’s wedding. I am not sure what age I was but am guessing around 6 years old, but my most vivid memory of that wedding was the violin solo played by Uncle Ron! It was riveting!
Being an only child, I was ecstatic when the Thelander family moved within walking distance of our house! Christmas became magical for me sharing music and fun with my cousins! They moved back to Saskatoon when I was around 16 and my Uncle Ron bought the extra car of my Dads, a Javelin 360, with a hood scoop, to drive west! He arrived in Parry Sound on the weekend, stayed with us at the cottage, and I think picked up my cousin Anne from Dance camp near Parry Sound! I was so sad to see them leave. Uncle Ron was a force during my childhood, teaching me violin, bringing home movies from the library for the kids to watch on the weekend, playing violin with Auntie Marge at the piano, patiently dealing with all of us kids and actually listening to our ideas and opinions! Baking bread and the ever famous waffles! We were all so blessed to have this wonderful man in our lives! He made a huge impact in the hearts of all who knew him. I find solace that he is with his loved ones in heaven! xo

I remember Ron during his time in Toronto, in Guildwood Village. His daughter Anne was my first girlfriend and first love, and his brother John became my best friend for many years.
The Thelander house was full of people and love!
I enjoyed Ron's mini-concerts, the trips to the Pickering pits for dirt-biking, and the few trips he took me on with his Honda 400 Goldwing (if memory serves me correctly). Not to mention our many conversations. I found him to be a very giving, generous and amiable person; for the short time I knew him he became my "second" father.
My heart goes out to the Thelander clan. I share in the sadness of his loss, but also share in the comfort that he is now with God.

Ron and Marge. The weddings of both Ron and Marge and Bernie and Angie occurred in 1955. True friendship was a true gift. Ron and Marge’s door was always open — to laugh, to cry, to break bread together and enjoy Ron and Marge’s music renditions. Our gratitude for true friendship and precious memories. Condolences to you, Marge and to your entire family and friends. Rest in peace Ron. Angie Molaro and family

I remember when great grandma passed away, you said to me. "Chin up kid, dont be sad, my mother is sitting on the right hand of the father." So today I can tell you. I am not sad, my chin is up. I remember playing in the basement in Biggar with my cousins and the big terrier dog that lived next door. You told us he bites. I always laugh when I think of that dog, he never tried to bite me, even when he let me pet him. I remember the waffle Sundays and those endless cups of juice. Today I'll be thinking about you everytime I open and close my front door. After all I'm the one now who has to pay for the heat escaping. And just for you, today. I wont use salt, I'll taste my damn food first.

My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family. Ron was an amazing man - my father Joseph kind of grew up with him as they were only 7 years apart & they always had a strong bond. I remember him as intelligent, kind & caring - very much like his Dad Fritz. Ron showed up at Dad's funeral & played the sweetest, loving❣ violin I have ever heard.

My deepest condolences to Marj and family. I was blessed to teach with Ron when he was a principal at St. Gabriel School. I have so many fond memories of him and all the stories he told of his many, many life experiences. There was much laughter at staff get togethers. Ron made all students and staff feel like he was in your corner and you could always count on his support. There was never a doubt that everyone in his St. Gabriel family held a special place in his heart. May God welcome Ron into his kingdom where I am sure we will hear his violin in the breeze as he plays with the heavenly choir.

Our heartfelt condolences to Marj and her family, I was Ron's school secretary at St. Gabs. I had several principals over my 26 years at the school but Ron holds a special spot in that line-up. He called me "MaMa Faye", as I often had one of my children on my knee. Ron treated one and all with diplomacy and kindness, he was a terrific speaker and had a way of making his large vocabulary understood by everyone in our Kindergarten to Nine school. Reading Ron's obituary brought back a flood of memories, all of them nice. It was a pleasure and an honor to have worked for Ron. I wish him a speedy flight to heaven above, and with his resume, I'm sure there is an interesting job for him there. With sympathy Chuck and Faye Hallberg

I remember one of the last times we saw him, he played the piano with Isabelle. It had been a very long time since he had played prior to that because of his health. We will always have fond memories of the time we got to spend with him. You will be missed Granddad.
