I worked with Martha at St. Andrew's College. Patrick recently sent me some photos from those happy days--a couple are on my fridge door!!. Martha was a very kind soul and she will be missed.

I worked with Martha at St. Andrew’s College and we remained friends after her retirement. We spent many good times together, usually over a meal. My family was the happy recipient of her baking on many occasions. She was a very special person who we will miss.

Martha was always thinking of others before herself at work and for her church.
A life well lived.
Thanks to all who made that possible.

I came to know Martha while a student and a resident at St. Andrew's College and over the years since I have appreciated every meeting with her. Residents and students at St. A's were another of her many families and she was always there as a supportive and trusted friend and often as advisor. Many of us in the 1950's appreciated the influence she wielded, and it was important when there was an 'issue' that we get Martha on side. At the time she was granted the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity few could have disputed the assurance that she was one of the most deserving of recipients. Many, like myself, reading her obituary and perhaps sending a message celebrating her life, immediately experience broad smiles and a host of delightful memories. Somehow I picture Martha dancing in that "dance that still goes on". Her message spoken in her living, Dance in service. Dance in joy."

Martha was a good friend to my parents Pat and Evie Ormiston, also members of Grosvenor Park United Church, and she was often part of the social gatherings at our house on 14th St. I didn't know her well and certainly did not know of all the accomplishments described in her life history. What doesn't surprise me is the service she quietly and willingly provided to so many. Martha was a regular at the Co-op Coffee Klatch for years on Tuesday mornings. My Dad was as well and he never wanted to miss. When Dad had to give up driving, Martha very kindly offered to pick him up and drive him there and back. It was a very generous offer that Dad appreciated so much but so did we. Thank you Martha.

I have very fond memories of Martha, firstly as a friend of my deceased brother Bill and myself and the champion of many worthwhile causes in our community and beyond.
Rest in peace Martha
A life well lived.

In 2007 I contracted capnocytophagia; both legs turned gangrenous and had to be amputated, and I lingered for some weeks between life and death in RUH before surgery could be undertaken. While it was a difficult and depressing time in my life, perhaps best forgotten, I shall never forget how Martha would come by each morning with an armful of newspapers for us. While the medical care I received was excellent, I needed something more: I needed spiritual care. And that I received in abundance from this wonderful human being, who spoke never a word but brightened each day for me with the radiance of her smile as she handed me a copy of the StarPhoenix.
I myself had done a fair amount of palliative volunteering over the years and treasured what I learned from her: the ministry of unspoken kindness. God bless you, Martha; all of us in that ward loved you!.
