I’m so sorry to hear of your passing. We had the pleasure of cutting the water with our paddles, sharing the warmth of welcoming camp fires, talking lyrics, routes, and osprey. You were there for me without complaint, sleeping in the mouse infested hall, between hauling lumber and swinging hammers to build the little cabin. I will never forget you standing up in that canoe with your aluminum paddle stretch high above your head sizzling and snapping in the lightning filled air. I will miss your smoke filled laughter my friend.

I saw Dean at St Paul’s Hospital just a few days before he left. I hoped that I would see him again, but I knew that I might not. I kissed him on top of the head, and said “until next time”. I never said “goodbye”, and I don’t need to. I will see you on the trail my dear friend. My deepest condolences to Dean’s family and his many friends.
