My memories of Larry go back to Brunskill School in grade 8. I had just arrived in Saskatoon, and he was the first to befriend me, the newcomer. Larry remained one of my closest friends all through high school. We would often walk to school and back together, sharing our hopes and dreams. It was as if I had found a brother my own age. A group of guys would occasionally go up to the Fowke family cabin at Wakaw Lake. Out there, we were the typical 1950’s teenage guys - smoking cigarillos, telling jokes, and many of us boasting about exploits that may have never taken place… We truly grew up together.
While students at U of S, Larry & Lynne and my Lyn & I frequently double-dated. I was honoured to have him as best man at our wedding. Our paths then separated for a few years, but re-united briefly in Ottawa in the late 1960s. After that, we saw each other much less frequently, but always kept in touch. I especially treasure images from the summer of 2010, back at the cabin at Wakaw Lake, with Lynne and Larry so relaxed, happy, and welcoming of Lyn and me, as if no time at all had passed since our last get-together. See photo.
Simply put, Larry Fowke was a true, life-long friend. We send our deepest condolences to Lynne and the family.

Dick and I have such wonderful memories of Larry dating from 1968 when we first arrived in Canada. We remember especially the fun times we had at the Wakau cottage - Larry trying endlessly, but ultimately unsuccessfully, to teach me to waterski! The attached photo is of Larry, who was the Head of Biology at the time, donning a disguise and bursting into my lab to serenade me on my 50th birthday! He had such a sense of fun - he was an instigator and participator in so many Christmas Biology skits. He will certainly be missed but never forgotten.

My sincere condolences to Lynn and family on your loss. I met Larry about 50 years ago through mutual friends. Being with this fun-loving man was so enjoyable. He seemed so humble that I was a wee bit surprised but much impressed on learning of his scientific excellence. We played old-timer hockey together, met socially, and always chatted about our work and families when we would meet on the USask campus. His, certainly was a life well-lived.

Dear Lynne and Family
So sorry to hear of your loss, we always enjoyed the many Thanksgivings and Christmas we spent with Lynne and Larry when they were visiting with Shawn, Christine and family. Larry was always game for anything and very supportive. Our children thought of him as a grandfather. The way he handled his battle with Parkinson’s was inspirational. He will be missed. Hugs and kisses to you all. ❤️ The Sparrows

Our condolences to the Fowke family.
We were fortunate to have been able to "share" Larry and Lynne with Vern and Sylvie during many of their visits to Ottawa over the years. Larry was clearly an accomplished man and a pleasure to spend time with. He was much loved and will be missed.
