In Loving Memory of

Marjorie Rebecca McIver

Friday, November 24, 1950 – Wednesday, November 30, 2022

    Marj passed away at her home in Saskatoon in the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 30, 2022.  She had frequented Saskatoon hospitals over the past couple of years.  Marj met each of these visits with positivity and determination and an adamant stubbornness to return to her own home again.  She had just been discharged the day previous to her death from Royal University Hospital and had enjoyed telephone visits and many texts with her family and friends.

    Marj was born Friday, November 24, 1950, at Watrous Union Hospital, Watrous, SK on a frosty, very cold winter’s day.  She grew up on the family farm north of Young and was the 5^th of 8 children.  Her formal education was taken at Young from grades I – XI.  She moved to Saskatoon and worked at Sherbrook Nursing Home followed by employment with Waldman & Paul which was a garment manufacturer as she was an excellent seamstress producing quality garments.  Her sister, Janice, was the recipient of many big-sister projects which included a floor-length grad gown as well as 3 bridesmaid’s dresses and just “fun” dresses.  She was a gifted seamstress who sewed, altered and patched with ease and always completed an excellent finished product.

    Following her employment with Waldman & Paul she attended Community College completing her Grade XII as well as a secretarial course and was honored with many recognitions from the College for her exemplary work.  With this new avenue of education obtained she went to work for a law firm in Saskatoon and again was very conscientious and meticulous with her work.  Albeit doing an excellent job at the law firm it still was not the employment she was seeking to find fulfillment.  She applied for a position at SIAST Kelsey Campus, Saskatoon SK and this became a lifetime commitment of labor, love, frustration and accomplishment until her retirement in 2015.  Marj worked herself up through the ranks of SIAST from being a secretary to having her own secretary progressing through the Outreach Programs to many other projects which required a lot of dedication, budget planning and meetings.  She was also active in the Union for many years being on the Negotiating Team for new contracts and doing her best to represent her fellow Union brothers and sisters.

    Marj was an extremely intelligent woman and had a life-long love of books.  She usually had at least one book on the go & would read for many hours a day.  She kept up with world news and enjoyed engaging in conversation on just about any topic you chose or she chose! 

    Gardening was a summertime passion and she enjoyed both flowers and vegetables.  Marj was excellent at canning and freezing her garden along with making jams and jellies. 

Every second year it was Marj’s turn to host the Family Christmas Feast and a FEAST it certainly was.  We will all remember the aromatic wafting of the Christmas meal as soon as you opened her door to enter, the sparkling decorations and the tables already set in anticipation of her guests’ arrival.  

    Marj’s true love was the love of her three grandsons:  Joel, Riley and DJ and the twinkling sparkle of her great granddaughter – Evie.  She was always proud of their accomplishments and quite often had something to share with you about what they did, what they were going to do and even perhaps what they should have done or not done!  Her home was always busy with their friends and her door was always open to them. 

    Marj was predeceased by her grandson, Riley Stagg; mother and father, Sally & Lawrence McIver; sister, Jane Rigden; two brothers, Don (Rue) McIver & Scott McIver. 

Left to cherish her memory is her grandson, Joel Clark & daughter-in-law Ashley Dyck & great granddaughter Evie Clark; grandson, DJ Messner; two daughters, Shari Stagg & Kristen Messner; brothers, Stuart (Shirley) McIver, Tom (Marg) McIver and Bruce (MaryAnn) McIver; sister, Janice (Verne/Bernie) Morelli; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews as well as cousins and her very close group of friends who meant so very much to her.  Marj is also survived by her good friend and confidante, Karen Breeze.

Take time and hug your dear ones a little bit tighter every day. 

You will be missed Grandma, Great Grandma, Marj and Auntie Marj.

You will remain forever in our hearts.

The Celebration of Life will he held at 1:00 p.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home on Saturday, December 10, 2022 with Sue Panattoni as Celebrant.
