I am so sorry to hear of the death of Moishe. I knew him for a year-in NYC at International house where we both were staying. He was a good friend, and fun to be with. Katherine Van Wormer Howard.

I will remember that he was always with Gerry. They came as a pair. He was such an avid reader and whenever a literary event was happening they were there. It will always make me smile and warm my heart to think of him and how excited he was when we went to dim sum with him and members of his family. May you be surrounded with books and family.

I was walking past the Arts Building elevator one afternoon. The lift was stuck between floors. From between the doors, I heard a muffled voice: “Could you find me something to read, please?” I slid a slender volume of poetry through the crack. “Thank you very much.” Gentle, polite, and truly professorial — Moishe

I took two French classes from Moishe in the '60s and to this day remember him as among the best professors I had in my seven years of university. He was indeed, as the obituary says, "kind, warm, gentle, and funny." Yes, but he conducted his classes with a kind of no-nonsense approach that inspired respect and high admiration. I do wish I could been able to exchange a few words with him in these later years and been able, thereby, to tell him of my abiding fondness for him.
My wife Sigrid wants to take this occasion to say hello to Moishe's daughter Gillian, whom she taught as a very special grade two student at Brunskill School, in 1968-69. Sigrid says that Gillian was so advanced a reader that it was difficult to find books that were suitable for her.
