Obituary of Sharon Ruth Mirtle
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a wonderful wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, confidant and friend Sharon Ruth Mirtle. Sharon was a caring person who had a zest for life. She was first and foremost family focused; however, she also showed a caring, understanding and compassionate approach to the people she encountered in her life. Sharon was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Graduating from City Park Collegiate, this is where she met her devoted and future husband Ian Mirtle. Married in 1971, Sharon and Ian embarked on a two-month honeymoon adventure in Europe, which they often talked about with their family. Together for over 44 years, they committed to furthering the education of youth in the community. Sharon worked as an Educational Assistant working with special needs children in seven different schools, prominently at Howard Coad Elementary and Brownell Elementary School, from which she recently retired from in 2014. Ian and Sharon raised two wonderful children, Trevor and Heather, who also followed mom and dad's footsteps into the Education field. In 1996 Sharon and Ian embarked on a new journey by purchasing their ultimate family "Disneyland" the cabin at Emerald Lake. This would be the mainstay attraction for Sharon and Ian to entertain family and friends during the summer months. Many memories were created over the years from family fishing tournaments, beach volleyball, renovation projects and most importantly evening social gatherings. Sharon valued family and loved the holiday gatherings that brought everyone together. Specifically the Christmas and Easter seasons; Sharon made sure the house was decorated to the extreme for all to enjoy, especially for her two grandchildren Paige and Reese. Sharon was predeceased by her father (Jack Hunt), mother (Ruth Hunt) and granddaughter (Abigail Mirtle). She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Ian, Trevor (son) and Jaime Mirtle, Paige and Reese Mirtle (granddaughters), Heather (daughter) and Jared Schapansky, John Hunt (brother), and other loved ones and extended family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday July 7, 2015 at Silverwood Elementary School (403 Silverwood Road) beginning at 2:00 p.m. A tea and social gathering will follow. Interment will take place with family at a later date. In memory of Sharon, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan in lieu of flowers.
