Lowell, you will forever be missed. Perhaps the closest person I have known to have been such a crazy dog lover like me. You can never have too many dogs in your life!!
Already missing my emails from you. You always brightened up my day and made me giggle, even when we were deep in a discussion about Candian taxes.
I hope more than anything now you are at peace and are surrounded by all of your beloved dogs already gone.
Love always Lowell, Danielle

Passion, quick wit, zest for life, learner/teacher, creative
ideas to action are some of the words I would use to describe Lowell. Great memories of visiting Lowell with "Sister Jacki" at Banff School of FA, in RM House eating the amazing Duffy burgers, drinking champagne from the bottle at Crimson Lake and listening to Lowell's stories on the McLaren back deck while munching on Ross’s veggies. Lowell you will be deeply missed by many. ❤️

My deepest sympathy to you Denise and to your family and all the McLaren families. I met Lowell through Joy of Vox Choir. I am so glad I was able to meet him. He was always there to help out and made sure everything ran smoothly. He will be greatly missed. I enjoyed his sense of humor and great personality. Our lives were and are blessed to have known Lowell. He has left a legacy that will not be forgotten. Carole Collins

Although I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Denise and Lowell's family in Saskatchewan, I offer my condolences. He was a true friendly giant of a man and will absolutely be missed.
I lost touch with Lowell in the early 2000s but still his departure feels like the end of an era. Sort of like when another epic drummer, Neil Peart left us with a rich legacy.
I first met Lowell during the Dave's Pizza days and worked with him for a year or two running the delivery service for a local eatery. After work, we would often wind up at his home at 4 AM having a beer, listening to Louis Armstrong and analyzing poetry. Time spent with him was always a treat and I remember fondly the engaging and stimulating conversations in the wee hours. He told me many stories of the Duffy days in Rocky Mountain House which I still remember fondly.
I remember him describing his English Lit degree as not getting him a good job but instead giving him the ability to annoy all his friends in conversation. However, he took his formidable knowledge of the language to Japan which sort of contradicted his often uttered maxim! He was the type of person who would make such a big life change with nary a concern, rather with unbridled enthusiasm as he embarked on the next new adventure.
Everyone who was lucky enough to have been touched by Lowell remembers him fondly. He was just a really nice guy and he treated everyone with respect and as an equal, a rare trait indeed these days. I think everyone (myself included) remembers him for being such a wonderful, genuine and outgoing person.

My condolences to Denise and the entire McLaren family.
The news of his condition last year caused me to think deeply about how much influence he had on me as a young adult. He was truly a solid guy with an incredible zeal for life. He taught me a lot about food, literature, technology and he always seemed to have a zen-like insight into the human condition.
Even though we had lost touch over the past decade I will truly miss him. The world will not be the same without him.

There are probably few who knew what an impact Lowell made to the lives of many regional Australians when he set up and ran a BBS service called the Friendly Giant. Before we got the Internet out to the public. And then he played a major role in providing Internet access to those who were connecting in to the Friendly Giant. Musician, motorcyclist, go-karter, nomad and traveller, IT whiz, lover of life, but more than life, his love of a lifetime will always be Denise.
We hoped that we could share one more pot of your famous chili con carne ... but we also have a a life of memories with you, all four of us.
With much love from Barb, George, Luke and David. You will always be a part of us <3

Remembering our irreplaceable barefoot drummer.
I will always remember the Lowell-only-stye energy he brought to everything he did and everyone around him.
Everyone blessed enough to know him is better for it.
Most sincere condolences Denise and all who loved him.
The beat goes on.

Lowell was my first ever boss at The Friendly Giant in Ballarat, Australia. He taught me a lot in the two or so years I worked for him. I also enjoyed many a BBQ at his house. I was shocked and saddened to hear of his death. My thoughts go to his family and friends. Thinking of you all the way from Australia.

I only knew Lowell as part of the Joy of Vox choir. He was such a generous soul with his time, sharing his expertise in so many areas. He quietly filled many supportive roles for the choir like playing the drums, making sure we had proper concert risers, and arranging many after choir get togethers…. And much more. But most importantly he managed to acquaint himself with so many of us. Considering their is 200 of us that’s quite a feat. And to think the choir was only a small part of his life!!! What an amazing guy. Definitely a one of a kind.

Working with Lowell on the Cherry Tree House Musical Education Fund was as fun as it was rewarding, I am grateful for the chance to get to know him a little over the past few months. Our deepest condolences to Denise and everyone who loved Lowell from all of us at Saskatoon Community Foundation. I'm so glad Lowell was able to play at Napatak this summer and honoured to be able to play a part in continuing to share his love of music in this province. Thanks so much, Lowell.
