Gerry Irvine

December 7, 1939 - July 12, 2022

 

Gerry died peacefully at home with his wife at his side.  He is survived by his wife, Marguerite (McLeod), daughters Tricia (Cal) Bray, Jacquie (Daryl) Shinkewski, Valerie (Frank) Borsos, 6 cherished grandchildren: David (Cassandra Trenholme) and Jeffrey Bray, Jamie (Delaney Collins) and Kelcey (Andy MacLeod) Shinkewski, and Christopher (Allegra Bentrim) and Joel (Laurise Sigurdur) Borsos, his sister, Barbara Kemp, and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his infant son, Colin and his parents, Dave and Molly Irvine. 

 

Gerry was born on a farm near Garrick, SK in the midst of a snowstorm. He enjoyed boyhood on the farm surrounded by extended family. The family moved to Saskatoon where he finished his schooling, graduating from City Park Collegiate. 

He had a long career in advertising working at the Star Phoenix, Shelly Brothers, CKOM and CFQC radio. He opened his own business, Custom Promotions and Awards, which he ran until his retirement. 

 

Gerry enjoyed service to his community and was involved in Jaycees, becoming an life member, Lions, coaching his daughters’ teams, refereeing and was co-chair of Ringette Nationals when they were held in Saskatoon.  

 

Family was central to Gerry’s life, raising three daughters, Tricia, Jacquie, and Val with his wife, Marguerite. Many happy times were found camping, canoeing, at the lake, in the boat, cross country skiing, and later, exploring Canada in the camper van. 

 

If kids were good, grandchildren were great! The arrival of David, Jamie, Jeffrey, Kelcey, Christopher, and Joel filled him with joy many times over. 

 

Gerry could be found on the ice at the Nutana curling club, walking the trails along the river, riding his bike, skiing on Eb’s trails and sailing at the lake. 

 

A Celebration of Life will be heldat Saskatoon Funeral Home on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 2:00pm. Please leave your ties at home. The Service will be live-streamed.  To access the live-stream click on the link above.  The link will go live around 1:45 p.m.the day of the Service.
