Bob and Phyllis Massier send condolences to Ethelda and family. I always enjoyed Virgil when singing in Variations.
I loved to embarrass him with a kiss whenever I got a chance. We miss you both down in the south country. God’s peace be with you . We love you and pray for you.

May God's Spirit uphold you as always, Ethelda and family, as Virgil has passed into the promised life to come for us all, assured by the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for sharing the uplifting funeral service live stream. In my many contacts over the years, I had almost come to think of Virgil as "eternal"! Even when he was long beyond retirement age, I was surprised (but should not have been!) when I met him at so many wider church gatherings! Always cheerful, energetic, and eager to be involved! So I give thanks to God for his very dedicated service to our Lord and in this church. + Bishop Allan Grundahl

My prayers and deepest sympathies to Ethelda, Beth, Kari-Lynn, and your families:
I am now married to a Lutheran pastor myself, and as we celebrated baptisms and confirmations in our congregation this past Sunday, I was sharing my stories and memories about Pastor Anderson, who confirmed me back in June of 1976 - of our hard work in confirmation class, our assignments of writing our own gospel, and co-writing a sermon (with Don Neher and Jack Kroszer) and presenting it to the congregation. I have the fondest memories of happy hours spent visiting at the manse in Markinch (I live in one myself now), of my friendship with Kari-Lynn, of Ethelda's best ever smoked ham and pea soup, and I remember Woofie the dog. I now realize Pastor Anderson was obviously very patient and kind with us, as he worked in his home office while we had tea parties in the same veranda space - let's say I now better understand the effort put into sermon writing. Every day when I open my Bible, given to me at my confirmation, I admire Ethelda's beautiful printing on the inside cover. I thought of that this weekend as I lettered and filled in calligraphy on all the certificates here, as I am now our church's secretary.
What a joy to know that we will all have a great reunion in heaven, along with all our beloved saints who have passed!
May God keep you in the palm of His hand and safe in the faith until we meet again.

Virgil was a man of integrity, commitment and compassion. I always had the highest respect for both Virgil and Ethelda. It was an honour and privilege to have served in the Weyburn Conference, with Virgil, from 2005 through 2010. 'Well done, good and faithful servant.' ~~ Rev. Donna J. Smalley
