Obituary of Margaret Christina Acton
Margaret Christina Acton, 91 years old, died peacefully at Oliver Lodge on December 28, 2015. Born to Bill and Annie (nee Smith) McPherson in 1924, she grew up in Hardisty, AB where she met Norm Acton and married in him 1951 in Saskatoon. Norm passed away in 2000.
Margaret was a wonderful woman who was loved by many. She was a homemaker throughout her life and was very talented in sewing, baking, crafts, and gardening. She loved growing beautiful tea roses. Both she and Norm were active members of Mayfair United Church. She was an enthusiastic member of the United Church Women (UCW). She was a lovely piano player with music and singing a common occurrence at home. Marg and Norm loved to dance.
She started her career working in the bank and ended her working career bookkeeping for the family roofing business. She loved relaxing at their cabin at Pike Lake. Her father Bill, father-in-law Fred, and husband Norm all worked for the CPR so her love of riding the train came naturally. She started travelling at an early age accompanying her mother back to Scotland many times.
She was a crafty card player and always played a mean game of whatever card game she played.
She will be sadly missed by her son Bob Acton (daughter-in-law Barb) and her grandson, Thomas, whom she so loved.
She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Annie McPherson, Norm’s parents Mildred and Fred Acton, Norm’s brother Gordon Acton (Marie) and sister Lucille Cowley (Ron), and survived by his brother Dale Acton. She loved the caring relationship she had with Joan Acton and her and Dale’s children Bruce (Melanie), Bryan (Ursula), Bradley (Michelle) and Rebecca. Not a woman of short relationships, she had long-standing friendships with many people in her life. She will be deeply missed.
Many thanks to the staff at Oliver Lodge who cared for her with love and kindness. In lieu of flowers, please give to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
