Dona Jane (nee Dawson) Froese
November 21, 1945 – June 1, 2022
With love in our hearts and beautiful memories to cherish, we announce that Dona Jane passed away at Hospice at Glengarda with her family by her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Philip, sons Kelly Reid (Gaylene), Garry Reid (Pammie), daughters Sheila Braaten (Jonathan), Melanie McCrea (David), Lana Froese (Brad Berschiminsky), Stepdaughter Tracy Froese (Brad Wiggins), Brother Jim Dawson (Dianne), 20 Grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her Father Argyle Dawson (1963) and Mother Evelyn Dawson (1971).
Dona Jane was born and raised in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. As a young girl, she enjoyed family gatherings with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She had a soft spot for animals and in addition to family pets, she brought home and cared for numerous stray dogs and cats.
Dona attended Riverview Elementary School, North Battleford Collegiate Institute and Convent of the Child Jesus. In those years she developed her lifelong appreciation for music, participating in many music festivals and piano recitals. She had a particular love for classical music. Dona Jane had many artistic talents that were passed along to her children.
To know Dona is to have laughed with her or to have shared an intelligent conversation, whether a close friend or stranger. She had the most beautiful green eyes that were warm, welcoming and drew you in. Her sense of humor was first class, and she was as compassionate and loving as she was funny. She loved to read and had a unique thirst for knowledge. She loved music, art, history and she travelled the world through books. Mom was a spectacular cook and baker. She could prepare a gourmet sandwich out of anything and took great pleasure in preparing beautiful and delicious desserts. Dona loved the prairies, a mildly warm day with a breeze would be what she considered “perfect”. Mom could whistle like a songbird (with an opera-like vibrato) and enjoyed watching them bathe outside her living room window.
We are all blessed to have shared in Dona’s life. The family is so very grateful for the compassion and care she received in her final days from the Doctors, nurses and staff. If you wish to make a donation in mom’s memory please consider the Hospice at Glengarda Saskatoon.
Please join us in celebrating her on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at 2:30 pm - Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338-4th Ave North, Saskatoon SK with lunch to follow at LB Distillery, 814-47th Street East, Saskatoon SK.
