Words can’t really express how we felt about hearing that Barry was gone so suddenly! We are eternally thankful that we were able to spend quality time together in Palm Springs this winter. We will always cherish those memories. . Heather was his soulmate and he was very supportive of her career(s) and love of orchids. Scott, Blake, Becky and Asher were his pride and joy!
Who doesn’t remember enjoying one of his famous “ Spanish Coffees” and good times poolside!
He was always ready with a joke or anecdote and his laughter was infectious! He will truly be missed by all!
Sending our heartfelt condolences to Heather, Scott, Meaghan, Asher , Blake, Becky, and Adam.

Barry was such an amazing person. He was a member of our driver team and made me feel so welcome once I moved to Saskatoon. He always was someone I tried not to miss on our “Junk Food Fridays” and we are all going to really miss him.

Dear Heather and family, Our hearts are heavy to lose such a great friend as Barry. Yet we feel very privileged and honoured to have shared so many wonderful times, travels and adventures together. He was so fun, generous and caring (even though he tried to be the tough guy sometimes--we always saw through it!). Had trouble with the video streaming, but will look forward to seeing the whole taped version when it's available. Sure wish we were closer, but know you have lots of supportive family and friends around you, as always. Colin always called him "Big Baz" instead of Bubba--trust the Englishman! Much love always, Heather and the Limey (Hoxby's)

Dear Heather,
I am very sorry to hear of Barry's passing away. I spent much time with Barry and our friends during our teen years. We had a lot of fun together but gave our guardian angels little rest. We created many fond memories and I would have loved spending time with Barry reminiscing. As has been noted, Barry was a larger-than-life type of person and if you didn't know where Barry was, just follow the laughter. From the obituary, it looks like Barry had a wonderful life. I'm very happy for that.
With sincere sympathy,
Ian Anderson

Such a wonderful tribute to Barry that captures his being! We were fortunate to live on Calder with the Anderson family and have many great memories of party’s, pool time (shed roof jumps), kid adventures, Babba’s buns, birds in garage ….. just to name a few! We have lost a special storyteller ++ , ‘Gatekeeper of Calder’ and friend to many! Our thoughts are with Heather and family during this difficult time.

I am so sad to hear of Barry's passing. Many fond memories I have of Barry throughout the years, him always giving me a bad time and me trying to keep up. He was always charming, witty and sarcastic. I am grateful that I got to see him just weeks ago at the airport. He looked great and was up to his old tricks. I remember he was especially grumpy years ago when my stepson thought he was Heather's dad. He told me specifically "I hate that kid!" Heather and family my thoughts and prayers are with you. He was a wonderful man and will be missed.

I was shocked when i heard the sad news about Barry - i first got to know him when he started dating Heather, and found out that he lived just down the road in Manitoba near Manson, which was close to our farm - Both Barry and I grew up on the farm, but neither of us had any intention of being future farmers (which was a good thing).
Barry was just one of those guys that everyone immediately liked. We had a lot of fun together over the years . A group of us had put together a Band back in the 60's and played around the area. Barry was in attendance most nights along with Heather dancing up a storm..
It seems to me that every few months he was driving a different car, and although i cannot remember the make and model, i do recall it was mauve in colour, which back then was kind of way out there.
Many many memories of B.L. (Barry) Anderson - and all of them good - To Heather, and the Anderson family our heartfelt condolences - a lot of folks are going to miss you Barry !

I knew Barry as one of the slightly older guys I met socially in the orbit of my older brothers. He was so nice. You can't say that of many of the older people you meet when you're a teenager. In my experience, Barry was the real deal. ... a really, really great guy.

We have had good times with Barry and Heather over the years; usually over good food and drink. Barry and I (along with others like Dave) were the non-orchid society support team. We travelled to orchid shows with our spouses (Heather, Bob) and only once did Barry and I get reprimanded for our "boisterous" visiting as the orchid society members were glued to a presentation in Edmonton. Heather and Barry were the neighbourhood "grandparents" to many children including our granddaughter from Toronto who was welcomed into their swimming pool. "Grandma... Barry gave me his swim goggles because mine broke... I love them..." This generosity extended to popsicles as he and Heather opened their pool and their beautiful yard to all of us. I will miss my "non-orchid" buddy - he was a great guy.

Barry was a car guy. How do I know? When at the World Orchid Congress in Miami in 2008, he participated by renting a Camaro convertible and squiring Heather, Dave and Cheryl Adamson and myself around in style. He will be missed.
