Obituary of Katherine Meston
Katherine passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Saturday, December 12th, 2015 at the Lucky Lake Health Centre. She was predeceased by her mother, Irene (Merkely) McVeigh, her father, Donald McVeigh, and her brother, William McVeigh. She is survived by her three children; William, Donald, and Patricia, grandchildren; Ashley, Meghan, Palen, and Christopher, and great-grandchildren; Piper, Tatum, and Scout. Katherine spent her early years on a farm near Smiley, Saskatchewan where she developed a love of the outdoors. She was an avid skier, hunter, artist, and horsewoman, as well as a competitive barrel racer in Alberta and Saskatchewan on the rodeo circuit. She was educated at Mount Royal College in Calgary. She received a Bachelor of Education, and then went on to receive a Masters of Education, from the University of Alberta. Katherine also studied art at the Banff School of Fine Arts and was an accomplished artist; favoring painting with oils and watercolors. She was never afraid of a challenge and in the fifties she worked as a Graphic Designer for an advertising firm in Chicago, and then later had a live TV show called “Today with Kay.” She married Dudley Meston in 1956 and they lived on a farm near Demaine, Saskatchewan where they raised quarter horses and had three children. In her later years Katherine loved to travel, play the piano, and spend time with her grandchildren. Katherine believed that we are all in charge of our own destiny, and encouraged her children and grandchildren to take risks and not be afraid to try new things. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lucky Lake Health Foundation.
