My deepest condolences to Susan & the entire Carriere family. I have recently learned of the passing of Jim Carriere and I found myself completely shocked. My eldest brother Ken, was best friends with Jim throughout Holy Cross High School and both were groomsman for each other's weddings. Jim spent so much time at our family home that he felt like family, often sleeping over. This occurred a lot. I'm eleven years younger that both my brother Ken and Jim. Jim was like an older brother to me. As a young boy I was honoured to attend the wedding of Susan & Jim in Wilkie, SK. I have such fond memories of that day. Even though I was a young boy, I knew this was a solid union between two people. The following year he was a groomsman for my brother Ken. I was the ring bearer. That day was beautiful. There was so much laughter and playfulness. That whole time period was like that. Our dad had been tragically killed in 1968 when both Ken & Jim were at Holy Cross. Though I have no memory of darkness, just light. Just playfulness & laughter and a large part of that was the spirit of Jim Carriere. As often happens when people have their own families and friendships grow apart, I never saw much of Jim after my brother's wedding. I admired Jim from afar for 25 years for his work with the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division as a Trustee and Board Chair. I was always proud seeing him in the media. "A gentleman is one who puts more into the world than he takes out." - George Bernard Shaw. Jim Carrere was the true definition of a gentleman.

Dear Susan and Family.
We were shocked to hear of Jim’s passing. I worked with Jim in the Engineering Department at Sasktel for many years. I always enjoyed his honesty, reliability and integrity. We had many good times on our field trips around Northern Saskatchewan. Jim was always so well dressed and groomed that his friends and colleagues nicknamed him Mr. Dress up! My wife Joan and I hired him for some upgrades and home renovations throughout the years and were always very pleased with the end result. We enjoyed his company both professionally and socially. Jim will be sadly missed. We hope that the wonderful memories you have of Jim will comfort you during this time of sorrow. Sincerely, Joan and Beattie Hugg

Susan, and Family, Though a good many years have passed since we crossed paths again, and again, and again, at Folkfest, they are all good memories. I like so many others was shocked to hear of Jim's passing, and of course, I wish to pass on my sincerest condolences to all of you. Jim was always a class act at every level. He was a pleasure to work with, and to be around. His warmth and charm made him a welcome addition to every gathering we were at jointly. His ready smile and sense of humour were never too far away either. His dedication and participation in serving his community set a standard not met by many. On one of the occasions I had to introduce the two of you at Folkfest, I mentioned that in his success in his various roles he was not a solo performer and that you as his wife, had a very active part in everything he did. Later in the evening he came up to me and thanked me for recognizing the both of you because it was so true. Following those days I have only met with him on a few casual occasions and in passing, but the he always had a few minutes to chat, smile, and carry on. It was a pleasure to have been able to share a small part of my life with both of you on this journey we've all taken. Prayers and thoughts to all of you.

Dear Susan, Jamie, Becky, Michael and Mark and families,
We are all so shocked and saddened by the news of Jim’s passing. We cannot imagine how great his loss is to you all. I remember Jim in high school, a standout basketball player, and sportsman, and a nice guy. We all remember how good a neighbor he was, suddenly appearing with his tools to help with our fence repairs. Jim had all the best qualities of a gentleman, husband and father. Please accept our profound sympathy for your loss.

So very shocked and saddened to read of Jim's passing. Jim did several renovation projects at our house and we have always been thrilled at the results, even if Jim's total perfectionism meant that the project may have taken a bit longer than expected! There is no-one we trusted more than Jim. His neatness was legendary, and we used to tease him about how he would be able to tolerate the messiness of a fur-baby at his house (glad to see that the fur-baby was acknowledged).
Sincere condolences to the family.

Susan, I can't begin to express how sorry we are to hear of Jim's passing. He was a man of many talents that he shared with many people. My first memories of Jim are working behind the bar at the Scottish pavilion many years ago. He always had some banter to share with people. When we decided to do some small renovations I thought of Jim right away. The small renovations turned into a whole house reno. I think of him often while sitting in our home. There are no words at this time that can ease the pain of loss but I hope that your happy memories will give you and all the family some comfort at this very sad time.

I offer to you, Susan, and your family, my condolences in the sudden loss of Jim. He has left many in shock. I knew Jim as a trustee when I worked as a religion coordinator for Saskatoon Catholic Schools. I also worked with his late Father, Don. I am so grateful for the few moments we shared recently at the funeral lunch of Jerry and Madelyn Zimmer. I will always remember Jim’s dedication to the board of trustees and above all his skills at conducting renovations. He was definitely not shy about working. It was definitely his greatest motivation and accomplishment. His devotion to you, Susan, and his family, was so evident in conversations with him. He will be greatly missed. May you take comfort in all the wonderful memories of quality time spent with him. May he Rest In Peace and Rise in Glory.
With Sincere Sympathy,
Lynda Browning.

I am heartbroken at the sudden passing of my Dear Friend, Jim. I first met Jim when he began renovations on our home in the mid-2000s and then for the last dozen years, he was my Renovator for the Ages, a perfectionist and artisan who redesigned my condo into the wonderful place I call home. My unit is a legacy to Jim’s vision and expertise, top-to-bottom. As long as I shall dwell here, Jim’s love and devotion to his craft and to me, will be a visible, tangible and memorable part of my world. Even more than an expert handyman, for me, Jim was a true Friend, more like Family. Countless times he came over to help me with odd jobs, always saying, “Pay me next time”, which never seemed to arrive. He was funny, very smart, deeply caring and empathetic. Jim could talk about anything. We would chat for hours sometimes, setting the world right before he would be off to his next project. He was especially helpful and understanding in recent years as I lost my mobility and had significant heath issues. Just last week, Jim phoned me from the road just to “check in” and see how I was doing and asked if there was anything I needed. That was Jim. A true Friend to me and countless others. We’d planned to have coffee together when he was next in my area, on the job. Alas, that was not to be. I was so fortunate to have ended our last call with “Love you, man.” And Jim said, “Love you too, bud!” I offer my sincere and deepfelt condolences to Susan and the extended Carriere Family on this untimely loss of a man so clearly loved, cherished and respected; Husband, Father and Grandfather. Jim, please keep the light burning for all of us in Heaven, to guide us home when our time comes. And you and I will one day share that coffee in the glorious light of that new place you call home. That’s a promise I plan to keep, Jim. Love you and miss you always, David Taylor.

Jim asked me once if we were friends. I told him no. To me friends are fair weather friends. As long as everything is great they are your friend but when things change they scatter and are hard to find. I told Jim that he and Susan were family, they were there good times and bad. My heart is breaking for Jim and for each one of his wonderful family. Susan I have no idea how I could ever repay the kindness shown me over the years but if something, anything comes to mind please reach out.
