Obituary of James Friesen
FRIESEN, JAMES (JIM)
March 30, 1950 – November 20, 2015
It is with profound sadness that we announce Jim’s passing. He passed away surrounded by his family at St. Paul’s Hospital after a brave 22 month battle with Lung Cancer. Jim was predeceased by his parents, George & Elfrieda Friesen, brother Carl Friesen, sister Marianne Lightburn, father-in-law Andrew Jensen, brother-in-law Allan Jensen and sister-in-law Marilyn Jensen. Jim is survived by his wife of 44 years and best friend, Darlene, daughter Denise (Glenn) Sanche and grandchildren Stephanie and Vincent, son Jeff (Dawn) Friesen and grandson Cameron, brother John (Carol) Friesen, Fred (Barb) Friesen, Bob (Kathy) Friesen, sisters Joan (Wes) Funk and Ann Dougherty, mother-in-law Mary Jensen, brother-in-laws Ron (Judy) Jensen, Arthur (Margaret) Jensen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was born and lived in Waldheim before making Saskatoon his home. On May 22, 1971, Jim and Darlene married and raised their family here in Saskatoon. He was an Automotive Technician working at SMP, Merlin Motors, Banner Motors and Jubilee Ford. Jim retired in 2012 when they moved to Canwood. Being an avid fisherman, many summers were spent outdoors at Hackett Lake and many lasting friendships were made there. He was so proud of his family and his grandchildren, loving to attend any activities they were involved in. He was also a long lasting fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Saskatchewan Roughriders. Jim’s Family would like to express their thanks to all those who assisted with his chemotherapy and care at the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic, the numerous doctors and nurses at St. Paul’s Hospital and finally to the wonderful nurses who cared for him during his final days, always ensuring his comfort and allowing him to pass peacefully.
