"Jesus wept, the Angels cried, all Heaven mourned when your Loved One - Lyle Gordon Ambler died."
Mr. Lyle Ambler consistently demonstrated his unyielding dedication and passion for the milling business day in & day out at the Saskatoon flour mill -(which once was called CSP Foods-Dover Industries & now presently P&H Milling Group(Saskatoon) - since his first day of employment – Monday, June 24,1968. Lyle started working in the plant’s Packing Department – packaging quantities of flour but left the assembly line four years later (Oct 1972) to always ensure that the assembly line itself and more ran smoothly and the Plant was producing more thanks to his troubleshooting and mechanical skill sets in our Maintenance Department where he has been ever since.
This man had Amazing Hands! He literally knows every nut & bolt which comprises our Saskatoon location on 33rd Street East and Quebec Avenue. No One has a more intimate understanding of what makes our Saskatoon location “tick” than he does. Mr. Ambler understood every moving part and every stationary part. And if it was not for his total commitment over the years of service he’s put in, our Saskatoon Flour Mill would not have been nor continue to be as profitable as it has been or strives to be today. Lyle instinctively knew how the building “ breathes”, “hums”, “vibrates” and he knew how to fix whatever is in need of repair – without being asked to do so. Mr. Ambler was one of the most pro-active people you'd appreciate who is on your Team. It must be said that he has “saved” the Company he has worked for 53+ years – thousands, if not millions of dollars in profit over his tenure.
Mr. Lyle Ambler had a Phenomenal Work Ethic that can not be compared to. If you thought nothing could outlast the Energizer Bunny – you are sadly mistaken.
This gentleman demonstrated Excellence in overall work performance and was always trying to correct/improve/make things better. He is the epitome of a “Mr. Fix-It”. Many of his Maintenance Co-Workers have relied on his expertise to help them whatever the situation. He was the Wise Sage that can always be relied on for experience & help.
Mr. Lyle Ambler was a very humble man who has never “tooted his own horn”. That was not his style. He has mentored to dozens of mechanics, millwrights, machinists and technicians over the decades. He loved to share with others best practices which sometimes are not found in manuals and books. He could have amassed walls of certificates and diplomas but his school has always been one of child-like fascination, curiosity-awe and “hands-on” investigation. If there was a problem to be solved , his grit and determination conquered the challenge.
Mr. Lyle Ambler most definitely was a Rare Gem who shone brightly in the workplace and many other endeavours he was a part of.
It has often been said that " your most Important Assets a Company can hold and care for are your Human Assets". Lyle helped to elevate us all up.
This Journeyman Tradesperson with 53+ years of Experience gave every ounce of his “blood, sweat & tears” to ensure that we continue to achieve, strive to always be better and ensured the livelihoods for those whom he toiled with & their families; even at the expense of his own over the years. Lyle exerted all of his time and energies - his entire career with elbow grease and has never shied away from any assignment no matter the undertaking. Literally speaking, he kept our Plant operating and that is a monumental task with little acknowledgement. He accepted responsibilities and performed countless duties above and beyond what may have been normally expected. Lyle’s blue work coveralls probably hide a red “Superman” cape beneath the collar. He scaled tremendous heights and lifted incredible weights. When you saw his tool cart on the floor- you knew something required TLC (tender loving care) and he made sure that whatever was required shall be “fixed” and We’ll be “up & running” again. Only his Supervisors & Management truly know the extent of what he all accomplished in his work orders but they must be too numerous to list. Hopefully, someone other than he, kept notice of what could be volumes and volumes that could line a library or two.
Thank Goodness for this Handyman!
This Gentleman could not remain idle and that has been truly to the benefit of the P & H Milling Group especially in Saskatoon.
THANK YOU Most Graciously – Mr. Lyle Ambler for all of your labours, hard work and great efforts inspiring others always – for making us strive to also do our utmost by your shining example.
Gauges show us visual displays of important information – You – Lyle have been that “Great Gauge” that our Workplace was Confidently Operating Smoothly . Thanks for being that daily sign of reassurance.
In Closing, using a Flour Milling analogy – Mr. Lyle Ambler is, has been and continues to be –“The Best Thing since Sliced Bread”.
Thank You Ever So Much Lyle for your Calm, Reassuring Presence and making your Co-Workers Smile about something every day. You truly made this earthly Life more enjoyable for others and all of His creatures.
To a Great Guy- One of the Best: ( 3 Cheers of Hip-Hip- Hooray!)
As you ride off into the Sunset & Till We All Meet Again in the Heavenly Father's Mansion...
Submitted by John Nicholas Starosta (I had the honour & privilege to know you for 27+years in the same workplace - I'm Grateful & Blessed - Thanks, Lyle!)
A Memorial tree will be planted in Lyle's Everlasting Memory! to give shade and comfort for his feathered friends whom he adored too.

I have a sense that Lyle wouldn’t necessarily be comfortable things being written about him as I have always known him to be very humble with a tendency to stay away from the center of what ever was going on. With this in mind, I will offer the remaining words here, directly to him.
Lyle, I am one of many who miss you so much. There are so many wonderful things I remember about you. Here are a few:
You were always a gentleman. I say this due to my experience of your gentle and kind nature together with the so many things about you that were classy and tasteful, especially around the way I knew you best, with music. Your choice of instruments - the collection of lovely guitars ( I don’t know I ever saw all of them) , the careful and unique way you strung notes together when we were playing with others. Your playing was always subtle, respectful, supportive, and in a powerful way additive to any music opportunity I ever shared with you. Although you would often be playing off to the side at a large session, I would sit as close to you as possible so I could hear your quiet brilliant playing. You could play superbly with anyone.
I was always touched by your fascination with nature which we knew by your amazing photography and your active caring for wild things whether it be a stray cat or a wounded pigeon. Your fascination with the stars.
You were always available to help out when something was going on whether it be a building project or a community music event.
You were capable and creative. I remember the time you temporarily replaced a broken tooth with one you carved from a plastic light switch - and it worked.
I always felt acknowledged by you and have such a clear memories of you looking me directly in the eye then giving a quick staccato nod followed by your warm wide smile.
I wish we could have played music together many more times.
You have my prayers and I know you have moved on to a better place and it is up to those of us left here to fill in some of the gaps you have left in our community.
Your Dear Friend,
John

I met Lyle when I first became involved with the Irish music group at Lydia's pub. Since that first meeting I came to appreciate his nature and talent/gifts. I found him to be personable, encouraging, thoughtful and humble. His guitar playing was amazing and was enjoyed by all who heard it.
Learning that Lyle was in palliative care was a shock to me; learning that he passed away left me with a profound sense of sadness.
To his family, relatives and friends I offer my sincere condolences.
Good Bye Lyle. May the echoes of your life, your music and your "soul roll from soul to soul, And grow for ever and forever." (A Tennyson). RIP.

Lyle is a fixture for me in my childhood memories. Images of him and others gathered to play music in my dad’s dining room. Memories of visiting with his birds or bunnies, always welcome to knock on his door. It was easy to spend time with Lyle. He was such a gentle adult and always welcoming and interested to show me photographs or a new guitar he was working on. Always ready to help if I discovered a baby magpie that needed tending. Always happy to let me pick the next song out of the “blue book”. I will never forget Lyle’s gifted ‘ear’ and ability to immediately finger pick to the music around him - though he always remained so humble about his ability to do so. In truth Lyle and the music he played with my dad, really is the soundtrack of my childhood.
I am so saddened by the loss of Lyle. The gentleness and kindness that he brought to the world is something that is really a treasure. While missing him, I’m comforted in the memories of the wonderful friend and Neighbour he was to my dad and myself.
Sending my deepest condolences to Tanda, her children, and Lyle’s extended family.

I'm sure that I could, and likely will, write something longer and more complete in eulogy to our great friend Lyle Ambler.
To say "he was appreciated by all" really would be a massive understatement. In fact, "understatement" might better describe Lyle's "personal style". I'm sure that is something to which all his close ones will attest.
But really, Lyle wasn't at all shy and unsociable. He was just "present" and respectful with people--more so than most. Being "quiet" really was all just part of his charm!
As for me, I'm sure that Lyle and I put in as many hours playing music together as Lyle put into getting that pilot's licence. And I can see where Lyle's "presence" and respect translated into his cool ability to deal with a machine, whether it was an airplane, or one of his famous motorcycles. I also know that talent was applied to his work as a first-rate journeyman tradesman. It
showed through either at the mill, or in any of his small projects (car fixing, guitar altering , photography, listening to people).
One special gift for me was a feeling of having sitting opposite me my own special "studio session-man" musician--a guy that would stick to my meandering timing like glue, and always make it "real" musically speaking. Such a privilege! I was happy to see him "out jamming", either with the regular celtic group, at most of our folk jams, or with the bluegrassers.
My special feelings go out at this time to Wendy, the one that I know the best among all Lyle's "contacts", apart from my own daughter Erin. Lyle and Wendy really were "there" for people, and I admired them for it.
And thanks to you Tanda, for all you have done.
I have been having some good conversations about Lyle with different folks, and I invite any phone call or text from anyone who would like to "chat" about this wonderful guy.
(Text/phone 306 229 8998)
Cheers Phil Wasson

Lyle was a wonderful presence at the Irish sessions at Lydia's and Amigos. He was known for his tasteful guitar playing and tune back-up, and once in a while we could hear him play a solo piece - always beautifully done. Rest in peace Lyle.

My neighbor Lyle will be greatly missed. He was always a pleasure to chat with and always kept an eye out for his friends. I knew him as a photographer, a animal lover and a late night musician. A motorcycle enthusiastic, you never knew where you would see him in the countryside. The neighborhood birds and pigeons will always remember you Lyle. RIP my friend.
From my family to yours, may we follow in your footsteps and honor your memory forever.

I grew up with Lyle, Phil, Howard, Bob, my Mum and Dad, among others playing music weekly. When i was little i would hide under the table, or bang on pots and pans, and as i got older i began to play with them as well. Lyle was always so supportive and kind, i really appreciated his guitar playing and love of his instruments, and he was always quick to compliment me on my progress. I bought a very nice used guitar 7 years ago from village guitar and amp, and soon after ended up at the Irish jam at Bon Temps where it had moved to after Lydias closed down. Lyle was there and he complimented me on the guitar and told me he had been contemplating buying it himself, i knew i had made a good choice then!
I will miss our friendship, i really looked up to Lyle. I think more so now than ever i would love to pick a tune with him, maybe the most humble man ive ever met.

I have many fond and funny memories of Lyle, here's a few:
Jamming in his back yard with his pet bunny "Bugs" hopping around our feet
Telling us how he had been woke up one night by a bug crawling in his ear (eeyew!)
Telling us how he had went outside in the middle of the night when it was minus 40 in only his underwear because he had forgot to plug in his car
His home-made improvised temporary denture for his missing tooth he had whittled from end of a white electrical switch
His concerted attempt to learn how to flatpick when his finger picking technique was the envy of us all
His "Clarence White" modification to his Martin guitar, where he had carved out the sound hole - just like professional bluegrass player Clarence White had done to his
His cedar topped Martin guitar that he nicknamed "Snuggles" because it was so cuddly to hold
Always tapping his fingers on his guitar pickguard a couple of times at the end of a tune
Riding by Len's house on his motorcycle on Friday jam night and slowing down to have a look through the front porch as he went by
Tracking him down at the A&W , he could usually be found there on any given evening, swilling coffee with his cohorts
Getting speeding tickets on his motorcycle
Being embarrassed to show us the Gibson Jumbo guitar he had newly bought, saying he didn't deserve it (He totally did deserve it!)
I'm sure other folks have many more they would like to share...
Lyle was a gentle, kind, and unique soul and we will all miss him
