We are deeply saddened to hear of Cal’s passing. We were neighbours at Emma Lake and loved when Dorothy and Cal would come
to their cabin. Their stays were always too brief and not often enough. Cal was an incredibly intelligent and distinguished man. We valued our visits and enjoyed his story telling. We were blessed to have known such a classy person. We will cherish the memories of sharing Cal’s gifts of Chivas Regal and Heineken beer. Our thoughts are with Dorothy and family.

Our sincere sympathy on the passing of Mr. Justice Tallis. It was my distinct pleasure to have a part-time job working with Cal in my final year of law school. He was, and always will be, a great inspiration to me. Over the years, we enjoyed his and Dorothy’s company at many social events.

I was one of a number of librarians who worked in the court house library in Yellowknife and who had the pleasure of working directly with Judge Tallis. It was a pleasure and a gift. We shared three years together, with him leaving about 6 months before me.
His support for the library, and for me personally, was both unwavering and unstinting. He was generous with his time, with his stories, and with his advice. In fact, it was because of him that I was admitted to law school. There must be many of us in this category!
There was never a truer friend.
My sincerest condolences to Dorothy and the rest of the family.

I was fortunate to meet Judge Tallis in Yellowknife when he was still the Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories. He was an avid supporter of the law library and provided suggestions and guidance on resources that would be valuable for the local Bar. He wrote the Rules of Civil Procedure for the NWT and was well-respected by the lawyers in the North.
When Judge Tallis was appointed to the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal, he continued to travel to the North to hear cases and would always visit the court library and share some of his wisdom. When we moved to Regina from Yellowknife, Judge Tallis was the first to greet us. He was so supportive throughout my career.
I have special memories of Judge Tallis that include workplace high jinx, as well as the serious conversations of the law and legal institutions. He loved a good story with light-hearted embellishments. He had high standards and was the definition of integrity. I am grateful my children understand and know who I am talking about when I share wisdom handed down from him. And we loved his moose sausage!
I am honoured to call Judge Tallis my mentor and friend. I am so grateful to him. He will be missed by many. My condolences and hugs to Dorothy and the family.

I was very sad to hear about the passing of who I will always know as "Grandpa Tallis". I think he will best be remembered for his great contribution and dedication to the law, but my own memories will be of his friendship with my parents and the guidance and mentorship he gave me when I also went into law school. I was highly influenced by him and also my parents high regard for him.
One of my fondest memories is captured in the photo attached. I was about 5 years old, and Grandpa Tallis took me and my siblings out in the snow and pulled us around on a taboggan with his snowmobile. When he pulled my brothers around, he would go fast enough around the bend to make sure they fell off, but he never did that with me and my sister, letting me believe that us girls were just better at hanging on than my older brothers. We had a lot of fun that day.
When I did get into law school, Grandpa Tallis was always encouraging. He loved the law and it was always interesting/inspiring to hear stories about his experiences.
I will miss him greatly.

This is one of the same memories that comes to mind for me when I think of Grandpa Tallis. I can still hear him laughing when the boys would fly off the toboggan. They were so upset that us girls were able to hang on. It was an amazing day.
I wish that we (my husband Rudolf and our children Mahya and Russell) had been able to make our trip back to Saskatchewan last year to see Grandpa and Grandma Tallis. I am thankful for the time I was able to spend together with G+G Tallis growing up.
