My family would like to express our condolences to you Andrea and family. We are so very grateful that Roger was able to officiate at the wedding of our daughter Andrea and our son in law Soren. We also have fond memories of the baptisms which you performed for our Grandchildren Elsa and Ole. You gracious and Christ like spirit was so evident, and it was always a pleasure to visit with you. We have the blessed assurance that we SHALL meet again!

Dear Andrea and family. It is with sadness that I have received the news of the passing of Roger. He was my Professor in 1986/87 and 1992-1995. When we met first in 1983, while I visited his brother Paul, I shared with him my wish to study Theology. He encouraged me to consider LTS as an option. I never regretted to come to LTS. The highlights were his Bonhoeffer and Luther Theology classes. When I taught in Papua New Guinea and the Philippines, I made use of his lecture material. His deep knowledge of Theology and his interest in the church in Asia and the South Pacific has been a benediction.

Dear Andrea and family, Peace and comfort to you! I have many fond memories of Roger, including a most memorable conversation we had in Dar-es-Salaam at the LWF Fifth Assembly in June, 1977 which I would love to share sometime. He also ordained me in November 1978. It was a delight to see Roger at the LTS 40th anniversary class reunion in May 2018 when he was in very fine form. Peace and comfort to all of you. May he rest in peace and rise with Christ in Glory.

How blessed you have been to have had such a long and productive life together. What a lot of memories you have built. Roger's contribution to the life of the church and to so many individuals has been a major one .

Dear Andrea and family. We were inspired by Roger's authentic example of Christian life and service. Grace, kindness, encouragement and pastor's heart shone through all he said and did both in and outside the classroom. Earlier this year we viewed a short video clip of Roger conducting Bob and Isabelle Sherwin's wedding at St. Joseph Lutheran Church, Hay Lakes in 1957 with Corrine as a flower girl! God's peace to you as you mourn his passing and celebrate his life.

I have vivid memories of Rev. Dr. Roger Nostbakken as a learned and articulate teacher of the theology of Martin Luther and Lutheran Systematics. So many times I left his class with appreciation for his insight and clarity. One time, when I told him that it seemed to me that he always said precisely what he wanted to say, he looked a little puzzled and replied something like this, "Just what did I say?" The most memorable incident, however, took place during a beginning-of-the-academic-year social event for faculty and students. He came dressed in cowboy garb and sang a country song extolling his fine appearance in his tight blue jeans. What a great down-to-earth man of faith and ministry!

God bless with His generous and caring presence all who grieve and miss this wonderful man.
I would like to underscore all that has been about his character, his godliness, and his wise teaching style, or his listening skills.
I am so glad I took the opportunity to phone Andrea and Roger this summer. Life gets busy and it had been about three years. I wanted to tell them how much they meant to me and to share some of my appreciation with them. We got to talking about how they went to Shelby Montana for my ordination 41 years ago in May. What a privilege to have them want to do this and to have one of my favourite couples be there for such an important event. Roger did a wonderful job of preaching and presiding over the ordination. A memory I cherish. Hearing your voices that day, and your laughter was good for my soul.
God bless you Andrea and family.

I am very sorry to read the news of Roger's death. My condolences to Andrea and family. I remain very grateful for Roger as an important mentor in my life. As a young seminarian and one of the early women, Roger was consistently supportive and available for me to drop into his office and explore the questions that were emerging for me. I will always remember his calm presence in class where he invited diverse viewpoints into the discussions. It was important modeling for me as I learned to engage different ideas. And, I remember with great fondness the many Friday evenings spent with Roger and Andrea where we had lively theological discussions. These informal times were an important part of my learning and development. I am so grateful for Roger and Andrea's generous hospitality.
Peace to you all as you celebrate and grieve a life well-lived.

Brother Roger was a wonderful pastor, teacher, mentor, servant, guide, shepherd, professor, counselor, and many more things too numerous to list them all. He blessed us with his incredible gifts, knowledge, passion for ministry, faithfulness to God, servant leadership example, and his love of Christ.
We give thanks to God for the privilege of knowing him and having him as our pastor and shepherd, and for the many ways in which he blessed us individually, and as a community at Resurrection Lutheran Church.
Thank you, Pastor Roger and dear brother.
Abundant blessings to sister Andrea and the whole family!

My experience of Roger, was as a Seminary student [1993-1997]. Roger was a kind, compassionate, gentle, wise person. He was a man of integrity, who always had time to talk, and 'listen' to us. Roger was always 'approachable.' It was a profound privilege to have shared that part of my life-journey with him, as I was trained, 'equipped,' supported, and encouraged, for ordained ministry. Roger, as many of us would say, 'Well done, good and faithful servant.' Rev, Donna J. Smalley
