Ches was a lively and popular classmate of mine. In gym class Chesley, as we called him then, displayed remarkable natural gymnastics skills. Childhood visits to the Anderson home on MacKenzie Crescent were memorable. Ches’s mom and dad spoke a barely comprehensible Tennessee-accented English. Playing in the backyard (sometimes with Ches’s lethal hunting slingshot) we were always joined by his pet boxer (Jingles?). Ches was genuine and felt like a friend for life. Talks with him over the years whenever we met showed he was blessed with a generous spirit, a warm laugh and a distinctive sense of humour. Ches will be missed by me and I’m sure by all who knew him. My sympathies go out to the Anderson family.

Ches, Myles and I were best friends from grade 6, through high school and beyond. We went to parties, cruised 8th St. and spent all our time together. Ches always had the nicest cars. From Mustangs and Challengers to Transams and Corvettes. We hadn't kept in close contact in recent years but I often think of the old days and will always remember him as a great friend. Condolences to Alice, April and families.

I have a lifetime of memories of Ches! Catching pigeons on the Railroad Bridge as kids. Hating on teachers at Walter Murray. Cruising 8th Street in whatever muscle car Ches was driving at the time, and consistently failing to attract the attention of girls on the cruise. My dad’s nickname for him « the Ches-nut ». Party weekends at Emma Lake, and sleeping on the beach. Ski trips to Banff and Wyoming and Utah and Kimberley. His brief residency in our home in Toronto, during renovations, and his contributed services for later renovations in our Toronto home and our Burlington home. Horse-riding and skeet shooting at his home in Saskatchewan. I could go on and on. Whenever we got together, the years just faded away, no matter how long since we last met. He was always warm and welcoming, and he’d do anything, anything, for a friend or family member. He was one of the best friends in my life, and I’ll miss him.

I knew Ches first in the early 80’s and reconnected about fifteen years ago. We shared so much. Oh what I would give for just one more conversation. He was the kindest gentleman I’ve ever known. I teased him about his platinum blonde hair and his great moustache. He will be a sweet angel. I will always cherish our time together.
My deepest sympathy to all that cared for him.
