Hazel Vivian Striker (nee Matthews)
On August 19, 2021, Hazel Vivian Striker passed peacefully joining her beloved husband Bill on their eternal journey. Mom was the third of nine siblings. She grew up in the Semans area during the dirty 30’s. Like many others, she left school and home early to work easing the burden at home. At the young age of 18, she joined the army to serve during WWII. While stationed at Dundurn, Mom met the love of her life Curtis William (Bill) Striker. They resided in Regina where Curt was born but after a couple of years moved to Biggar where Gail & Jo-Ann were born. Then in the early 70's moved to Saskatoon where Dad was now working. Mom settled in and then started working at Oliver Lodge until age 65.
Grandchildren & then the great-grandchildren started arriving and Mom was overjoyed with each arrival. She loved them dearly & was always giving words of encouragement and cheering no matter what it was.
Mom was not a gardener but loved to be in her kitchen. Her passion was knitting. Her children, grandchildren, Crisis Nursery and NICU received many knitted items. Mom and Dad loved to travel. They made many trips to both the East Coast and the West Coast to visit family. When Dad’s health declined she devoted herself to be his constant caregiver and supported him until the last. She lived on her own following his passing until 14 months ago when her own health had declined and she needed more assistance with daily living. During COVID, Mom moved to Warm ‘n’ Cozy Care Home. Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff as they took such great care of Mom

Afterglow
by Helen Lowrie Marshall
“I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
of happy memories
that I leave when life is done.”
